matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Crusnik)
Thus I put the Barnes & Noble gift card, which my dad gave me for Christmas, to good use: I got

--The other four (currently available) volumes of the Trinity Blood light novels;

--The soundtrack to "Daybreakers" (which includes the song from the trailer);

--Vol 3 of Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project (which I just plain love: it's like the happier, gentler sibling to the Sadamoto manga. Even the artwork is eerily similar);

--Also yet another blank journal, this time with a print of cherry blossoms on the front and back covers (perfect for the plethora of Yami no Matsuei fics that are flying out of my head: I came up with two more ideas on the way home, one being the backstory on Mercy Falcone and how she ended up working for the American division of the Ministry of Hades [Warning: it decided to turn into a mild Bleach crossover]; the other is sick humor piece in which Tsuzuki gets a strange Valentine's package from an admirer. :: Adjusts eyeglasses, smirks:: Hm, I wonder who that could be...).

And a package with someone's Valentine's Day present arrived in the mail. Note to the previous owner of the book: Sidney is a perfectly normal girl's name, and it's been used as a gender-neutral name since the late nineteenth century; there was no need to redact the name through the first story in the book and substitute "Cindy". There are no girls named Cindy in an L.M. Montgomery book; unless a Mary Sue has invaded her world...

What's winter and Christmas without a snowball fight? I've been itching to write this fic ever since I picked up the [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 table and discovered one of the prompts is "snow". Granted, I had to Handwave why it's snowing in the Evangelion-verse, but it works.

On the Eleventh Day of Christmas, the Matrix Refugee fanficced for ye:

An Evangelion snowball fight,
Midnight Mass in the Trinity Blood-verse,
Doctor Hobby wracking Joe's brain,
One Meifu Christmas office party,
A drunken Evangelion New Year's party,
Redpills stealing a Christmas tree,
Harry Dresden for the holidays,
Frank Sweitz adopting a David unit,
One Chateau Christmas party,
One Christmas spirit in the American Gods 'verse,
and An A.I. fic with David decorating his first Christmas tree.

Disclaimer: I do not own Neon Genesis Evangelion, it's characters, concepts or other indicia, which are the property of Hideaki Anno, Project Eva-Gainax/khara, et al.

Author's Note: Just a fun bit that I wrote for Neon Enoch Evangelion, more of a winter fic than a Christmas one, but Christmas is partly about family and being together and I thought I'd show the post-Instrumentality survivors just being a family for a change. There's a lot of angsty post-End of Evangelion fics (rightly so, considering what happened), so I thought I'd give these folks a reason to take a break from the angst.

At long last, I return to the infamous Neon Enoch Evangelion series with today's offering. I had every intention of posting this just after midnight on December 31st, 2009, since this is a New Year's fic, but I had to turn in early due to work the next morning. Let's hope I can catch up later today, since I'm now behind a fic or two.

EDITED due to a hiccup in either LJ or my 'Net connection...

by "Matrix Refugee"

Disclaimer: I do not own Neon Genesis Evangelion, it's characters, concepts or other indicia, which are the property of Hideaki Anno, Project Eva-Gainax/khara, et al.

Author's Note: Inspired in part by a hysterical discussion on (yep!) the EvaGeeks forum, in which some of us speculated what Professor Fuyutsuki would be like on a gaudy night, up to and including him getting into a drunken argument with Gendo -- over Yui, of course. This is set in my ambitious and infamous Neon Enoch Evangelion series in which I speculated that the Grigori, a race of Angels in human form, might be hiding behind the scenes, pulling the strings of SEELE; one of these Grigori, Penemue, who knew herself only as Sabia Valiant, was sent to NERV headquarters to serve as an interpreter, in the process crossing paths with NERV's vice Commander Kozou Fuyutsuki. The two begin a somewhat at-arms-length relationship, neither one really sure what to make of each other or their growing fondness for each other, until after Third Impact and the failure of Instrumentality. On emerging from Instrumentality, along with several other NERV employees, they manage to slowly start to rebuild the world.

Considering that Third Impact went down on New Year's Eve (what a time for the apocalypse to take place and so much for the world ending in 2012...), no one was in any state to celebrate, but that doesn't stop them, a week after the date, from gathering in the bar of an abandoned hotel, with what scraps they can pull together, to celebrate new beginnings...

http://matrixrefugee.insanejournal.com/

So in the event that something goes Hideously Wrong with LiveJournal (In the order of the infamous Strikethrough incident) and also to keep up with one or two comms, I've created an InsaneJournal. If any of you have an IJ, don't hesitate to friend me over there: the IJ looks lonely. Not sure how often I will be posting in it, and I plan to use it as a place to post my NC-17 rated fics; I've been tempted to transfer the few adult level fics I have on here to the IJ, but this would result in broken links on LiveJournal, so from this point onward, I will be posting new fics of this nature on the IJ. This includes what I'm calling "the Angelspit remix of chapter three of 'Red Moon/Akatsuki'," which I've started to poke at, but which probably won't go live until after the New Year. At this point, it's shaping up to feature: more explicit detail in that scene in the woods, Bella's dream getting naughtier, and more blood when she falls into the ravine. I'm having to restrain myself from going into Hideaki Anno mode on this one ("Oh yeah? You want to see Bella bleed? You got it!"). I swear he pulled out all the stops in End of Evangelion because he got sick of the otakus whining about how NGE would have been better if he'd featured :: Insert fanboy wish::.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Snow trees)
Snow is on the way! Thus the stores were extra crazy: the roads were so jammed with traffic, I wound up missing one bus home and thus I had to hang around the bus terminal, waiting for the next one. I used my time wisely: I worked on more of the 12 Days of Fanfic prompts, and I have a very rough list of what I plan to write/am actively writing (subject to change, if someone tosses a request). I've filled some of the empty slots (again, subject to change), and I'm including a few things I've threatened to write about (including a fic inspired by some funny speculation on the EvaGeeks forum about a tipsy argument between Gendo Ikari and Professor Fuyutsuki).

I also treated myself to a peppermint mocha latte from Dunkin Donuts: Tasty! And I'm not really a coffee person. This also resulted in a first for me: a manuscript with a coffee splotch on it, when "Baby, It's Cold Outside" happened to come around on the radio. Let's say at that very moment I just happened to be writing a fic inspired by the lyrics of said song, only this time featuring a tipsy shinigami and a certain sinister energy vampire; I didn't quite spit-take, but it was pretty close...
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (NERV)
I had every intention of getting up earlier this morning, since I had errands to run, but the grey skies played a role in causing me to wake up just after noon. Much as I keep vampire hours, I try to get up before noon on days that I'm not working, even if that translates to 11.30 a.m.

One of those errands entailed a run to Wal-Mart for some odds and ends, including pricing rimless eyeglasses. Which aren't cheap: $125 for the frames and another $100 for the lenses, plus I need to have my eyes checked. I'm hoping MediCare will cover them, but this might go over the limit. We'll see.

The flyer for next year's Boskone came today: none of the special guests seem to ring any bells with me, so I'm looking at other cons. Arisia looks neat, though it's in January and that could be a problem, weather-wise. I also looked at AnimeBoston, since I'm looking for a good anime con, but this year it falls on the weekend of Easter, so it's out of the question: better luck next year. And there's a one-day anime con in March at Salem State College, which I might give a go. Which brings me to the wacky costuming ideas, which include:

--Kaworu from Neon Genesis Evangelion. One of the more likely ideas, since much of his outfit is fairly simple, except I'd need a grey cosplay wig. May or may not be a good idea, given the number of fangirls this guy has.

--Muraki from (wait for it...) Yami no Matsuei. Except I'd have to hunt for a white suit and a white top coat as well as investing in a silver cosply wig. And again: fangirls. Though it might be fun to weird them out.

--And then there's the joke Death Note character: "Lambda, L's twin sister just not mentioned in the anime or the manga" This was meant as a commentary on both Mary Sues and the sheer number of L cosplayers which (I'm told) turn up at cons. Plus I look like I ought to be L's twin sister, thus it be almost like dressing as myself.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Tsuzuki in the snow)
Just did a couple different "Which YnM character are you?" quizzes, which don't want to play nice with LiveJournal for some weird reason, so I'll just post my commentary on the results:

First one gave me Tatsumi: I can see that one, as he's a bit of a tight-ass and a rules-lawyer on the surface, though he's really a kind fellow underneath his buttoned-down exterior, and I can be the same way.

The second one gave me... Muraki. I'll admit to being a bit of a manipulator (not as much as I used to be), and I have a bit of a sadistic streak but... I'm nowhere as vicious or cunning -- though I have the potential to be that way. Weird result is weird...

This is pretty much the same reason I've never yet posted any "Which Evangelion character are you" quizness: I always get weird results. On one, I got Shinji (okay, yeah, I cam be too emotionally sensitive at times, so I can see that one); on another, I got Rei (I can be quiet at times, but I'm not *THAT* deadpan...), and the result that really stymied me was Gendo. I Am Not Making This Up. I don't see the similarity, do you?

I managed to get up to 42 between last night and now, and that included going to the hairdressers to get my hair cut and have it given to Locks of Love for a donation: they got a 12 inch sample from me and now my hair is bit below jaw-length. Amazingly, it did not cost me a dime to have it cut!

And I actually have a good section to excerpt from my NaNo novel:

I'm hoping to break 10K later tonight:

Finally finished the "Enniel in a bloodstained bedsheet" scene: it turned comedic when Asato stuck his head in to see what was going on: cue one Nephillim slipping to the floor in a dead faint. Also wrote a touching bit between Shinji and Asuka: the fiery redhead has mellowed a bit, but she still calls Shinji an idiot when she's mad at him. There's also an exchange between Asato and Enniel which made me want to beat Enniel bloody with a dictionary (if I can get past that pesky AT Field somehow. Anyone got a small replica Lance of Longinus I can borrow??) since it ended with Enniel coming on to Asato who is 1.) only fifteen (though because he's six-foot-three, Asato looks like he's about twenty) and also 2.) Asato is arguably Enniel's grandson since Sabia's "shell" is derived from Enniel. There again, Grigori tend to have somewhat fluid boundaries when it comes to matters of the flesh, plus this is Evangelion, in which the squicky pairings are somewhat built into the mythos and it doesn't take a lot of imagination to come up with some "oh my..." reactions (the scene with Shinji falling on Rei is funny when it happens, but becomes a moment of Mood Whiplash after you find out later on just where Rei really came from...). Still doesn't keep me from wanting to bash Enniel's head in, so I'm trying to come up with a way to fold, spindle and mutilate him (though he's spent four pages with with a five inch gash in his gut: maybe that's sufficient).
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Fuyutsuki)
A bit of hurt/comfort fic. I've got one or two other fics which I might post, but probably will hold off on for a bit since they're still incomplete...

Title: "Her Watch is Keeping"
Day/Theme: Oct 11. I feel about average
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion (part of an on-going project)
Character/Pairing: Maya Ibuki, Kozo Fuyutsuki/OFC
Rating: PG

Author's Note: Set roughly before the very end of Episode 21. "Cauntion": Contains moderate hurt/comfort, plus I also borrowed a few details from manga continuity (though I've started to get the feeling that in the Eva-verse.... there is no "WUN TWOO KANNON!11111"). This, I confess, is one bit that I thoroughly enjoyed writing (plus it's also a bit of a turning point in the relationship between a certain old professor and his newest protege) I also had fun writing a bit featuring Maya Ibuki, so I suspect she's going to start poking her cute perky face in more often (No, no, no, she's not going to fall for Sabia!).

matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (NGE Angelic Script)
I've joined yet another prompts community, this time featuring a prompt a week for an entire year. I probably won't manage to write them all, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Also, this is a decidedly strange chapter, featuring a whole slew of Grigori:

Title: "Parzupheim"
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion (part of an on-going project)
Theme no.: 51 ) We build worlds that destroy us.
Character(s)/Pairing: none appear, but Gendo Ikari is spoken of
Rating: PG-13 (for general weirdness)
Notes (if any): One of many fragments from my on-going project, "Neon Enoch Evangelion", aka the ambitious NGE project. SEELE might have their own mysterious council, but aiding and abetting them, are a council of Grigori angels. A lot of the inspiration for this came from Andrew Collins's "From the Ashes of Angels", an interesting speculative history of who or what the Grigori might have been or might be...

EDITED slightly to clarify some speakers and their identities...

'They would gain the fruits of eternal life, but at the cost of their own individuality? They don't know what they are playing with.' )
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Fuyutsuki - Gendo)
I've had this idea for quite some time and the prompt for the day fit it very well.

Title: "Little Boy Blue and the Man in the Moon"
Day/Theme: Oct 24. Ask tearfully, truly
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion (post End of Evangelion, part of an on-going project)
Character/Pairing: Kozou Fuyutsuki, Shinji Ikari
Rating: PG

Author's Note: Title shamelessly stolen from Harry Chapin's "The Cat's in the Cradle", which I have to confess makes me think a bit of the (at best) strained relationship between the elder and younger Ikaris (You know you're obsessed with Evangelion when the oddest songs make you think of Eva characters...). There's also a bit of an in-joke in using said title, since this fic involves a conversation between Shinji -- whose temperment is certainly "blue" -- and Fuyutsuki, who has the moon ("tsuki") in his last name... Takes place probably about halfway through "Under the Winter Moon", the second part of "Neon Enoch Evangelion", aka the ambitious NGE project

matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (NERV)
"Evangelion Volume 9's on my desk, all's right with the world."

I got the mail this morning, and was delighted to find a smallish package, about the size of your average manga waiting in our mailbox. I ran upstairs to open it pronto, though I did so with some trepidation: I feared that somehow, someone had made a mistake and accidentally sent me the Japanese version. But to my relief, once I got through the Tyvek mailer, there it was. The cover is a bit bent and it's a little warped, but the pages are all there, and that's all that matters. I still can't believe it's here, though, and I keep glancing over at my writing desk to see if it's really there....

In the meantime... I ran across and ordered two more books, which were favorites of mine as kid, and which I took out of our town's library almost every Hallowe'en: a pair of Hallowe'en poetry books, one entitled "In the Witch's Kitchen" and the other "Ghost Poems", edited and illustrated with very atmospheric ink and watercolor pictures by Tomie de Paola. The books disappeared from the library some years ago, which left me feeling tricked... but thank heavens for Amazon.com!
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (NERV)
A Very odd thing has happened on Amazon: a copy of Vol 9 of Sadamoto's manga turned up, for US$9.70. Not 99.70. But 9.70. I couldn't order it fast enough, which left me realizing I'd have to inform the eBay seller in England that I'd have to fold on the deal we were hashing out, so I sent an email to that effect. I was a bit concerned this would cause some trouble, but the seller was cool about it: sent me back a reply that the shipping cost to the U.S. was not going to be cheap, so I was better off with the budget-priced copy from Amazon. So... perhaps as early as the end of next week, hopefully my search will be finally over.

I finished this one just now and it was too cute to save for later...

Title: "Reunions Not Looked-For"
Day/Theme: Oct 3. There are no strangers under cherry blossoms
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Character/Pairing: Kozou Fuyutsuki/OFC, Ryoji Kajii
Rating: PG

Author's Note: This actually goes smack in the middle of the fic I posted on October 2nd, but I cut it out since I didn't want to upset the haiku-like symmetry. I was reluctant to include this in the second part of "Neon Enoch Evangelion", aka the ambitious NGE project, mostly because I was reluctant to bring a certain character back from Instrumentality, but a discussion on (yep!) the Eva Geeks forum made me reconsider.

I was going to make this a much more explicit chapter, but I didn't feel quite up to it yet (plus, sex scenes are embarrassing to write). But I love how this came out, and I hope do too.

Title: "Love in the Ruins, Part 1"
Day/Theme: Oct 15. Tempting me into the garden
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion (post End of Evangelion, part of an on-going project)
Character/Pairing: Kozou Fuyutsuki/OFC, with teeny cameos of Shinji Ikari and Asuka Langley Sohryuu
Rating: PG-13

Author's Note: This prompt was made for this chapter/scene and for the Grigori which inspired me to create -- or perhaps discover -- "Neon Enoch Evangelion", aka the ambitious NGE project. Takes place toward the beginning of "Under the Winter Moon", and yes, this scene is a prelude to something much more sensuous...

Suggested track: "Angels are Weeping" by Nox Arcana with Michelle Belanger, from their Grigori-themed album "Blood of Angels"

I'm going to have to play catch-up over the next couple of days, as there are two entries I wanted to work on and post, though I'll have to save them for [livejournal.com profile] 31_days's Amnesty Day. I've been busy going to the Topsfield Fair with my folks, and also finding other areas to pursue in the quest for the elusive Volume 9.

Title: "The dream of a brightful day in the end"
Day/Theme: Oct 13. This world of dew/ is only a world of dew-/ and yet... oh and yet..
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion (post End of Evangelion, part of an on-going project)
Character/Pairing: Kozou Fuyutsuki, Shinji Ikari, Asuka Langley Sohryuu OFC
Rating: PG-13

Author's Note: At last, the very opening of "Under the Winter Moon" the second part of "Neon Enoch Evangelion", aka the ambitious NGE project! Things should get a little more coherent from here on (Well, as coherent as anything inspired by Evangelion can be...). Chapter title shamelessly stolen from the availible-only-in-Japan PSP game "Evangelion 2: Another Cases".

I certainly haven't abandoned this project: I've been gathering ideas for future chapters and roughing out a sort of outline (Operating word being "sort of": I've learned the hard way that I need to give my characters room to move around in, as long as they don't completely derail the story).

The facepalm icon will become apparent once you've read the fic... It came out funnier than I first expected, but post-EoE, one needs a good dose of funny...

Title: "Gathering the Flock"
Day/Theme: Oct 9. Wandering birds pass through the village
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion (part of an on-going project)
Character/Pairing: Kozou Fuyutsuki, Shinji Ikari, Asuka Langley Sohryuu, OFC
Rating: PG-13

Author's Note: Follows immediately after "(Un)Welcome Torrent", toward the beginning of the second part of "Neon Enoch Evangelion", aka the ambitious NGE project. I'm probably borrowing heavily from several post-EoE fics I read a week ago, but the authors thereof can rest assured, it was done in a spirit of "imitation as the highest form of flattery" rather than thievery or plagiarism.

The good news: with a little help from the lady-manager of our town's branch of the bank where I have my account, I was able to get The Scammers to back off and close the membership that I Did Not Want and Did Not Sign Up For. My account is safe. Downside, I still don't have the book, but I've made a bid on the UK eBay listing. Keep sending out those prayers and positive thoughts.

And further proof of my obsession: went to the Salem. NH Barnes & Noble, where I picked the first two volumes of yet another manga set in the "doujin-universe": "The Shinji Ikari Raising Project", based off one of the available-only-in-Japan videogames. Hm. I'm wondering if Viz or Dark Horse has any plans to take up "The Record of Heaven's Gate". I'm hoping they do, since it'll keep us all occupied in between releases of the Rebuild movies, and while Sadamoto slogs through the next chapters of the core-continuity manga...

Though to tell the truth... I don't think there really *IS* any WUN TWOO KANNON in the Eva-verse...
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (NaNoWriMo 2008)
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/445300

Just reactivated my NaNoWriMo account, after several false starts due to Website Errors of Various Kinds. I'm planning to devote this year's NaNo to Neon Enoch Evangelion -- Part Three: The Nephillim Variation, though that means I'll effectively be doing what Richard Wagner did with his famous "Ring Cycle": he wrote the fourth and final part, "Goetterdaemmerung" first, then went back and wrote the other three operas to flesh out the backstory. I may still peck away at the first two parts during the NaNo-ing, but we'll see. I've got most of the plot for Part Three already fleshed out. And in a moment of karmic retribution, it looks like it's morphing into one of my post EoE fic pet peeves, ie. the "Angels are coming back, Project E gets restarted" scenario, but there's a twist to it which I'm not going to reveal just now. It's not a reboot of the Eva-verse the way so many student writers have gone (though a well-written and plausibly done reboot would be neat to see). I'm kind of going the route of the manga "Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Record of Heaven's Door", which I just started flipping through via scanlation sites, in that the conflict is a bit more down to earth (no giant cyborg mecha to be seen).

Things we will be seeing in Part Three: the first human-Grigori child in a millennium, the next generation of NERV at work in the Massachusetts facility (One thing, as a native of Massachusetts, that makes me good-crazy about the Eva-verse!), the return of the Grigori, the price which people must own up to for past wrongs, and a new threat from the very beings who helped rebuild the world (and very likely some slashy fanservice from Enniel Prussot)...

I'm just not sure right now how it's going to end...
