It's been a while since I sat down to watch the movie, and I might combine movie-universe with graphic novel-universe, but here goes:
1. The first character I first fell in love with -- Major, major toss-up between Mike "the Angel of Death" Sullivan and Harlen "the Reporter" Maguire. Mike, because in personality and looks, he reminds me a lot of my dad (Serious: stick a 1930s suit and a fedora on my dad, and he'd look just like him. He's even *named* Mike!), and Maguire... well, because he's so wierd he's oddly attractive.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now -- Hah... Would probably be Michael jr. I see a lot of myself in him that I didn't see before.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't -- I know a few people who squee'ed over Peter Sullivan, and while I don't hate him, there just wasn't enough screen time of him for me to really get to like him.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates -- My best buddy thought I was wierd because of my fondness for Maguire. Does that count?
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer -- I liked Mr. Rooney, until about one-third the way through the film. I think we know why.
6. The character I would shag anytime -- ::Inserts reference to a PWP self-insert fic she started jotting down, involving Harlen Maguire and the back seat of his Model T Ford...::
7. The character I'd want to be like -- Pulling in someone from the graphic novel-universe: the priest in "On the Road to Perdition: Sanctuary" (the trio of novellas Max Allan Collins scripted after the movie was released on DVD; you read them? They're not quite as good as the original, but they're still a good read). He might hesitate over helping someone of slightly dubious repute, but he's got enough sense to put persons and their greater good over principles.
8. The character I'd slap -- "Crazy" Connor Rooney, but if I did, he'd probably kill me. He's such a brat, albeit a dangerous adult brat.
9. A pairing that I love -- ( ::Gets out the stick to beat off any fanbrats with wierd ideas about this pairing::) I love how the relationship between Mike sr. and Michael jr. deepens through the course of their journey.
10. A pairing that I despise -- Not sure if this counts, since this universe (in either medium) doesn't really lend itself to pairings much, but these two characters irritated me. Back to graphic novel-universe: the two bounty hunters known as "the two Jacks"; the two of them put together just don't equal the wierd panache that Maguire has.
