Irony of Ironies

So! Finally discovered a site which has the 1967 version of "The Prisoner" and started watching it last night: It's fun and weird, but I'm not sure that I like it as much as the new version. For one thing, I can't make jokes about Jesus (Jim Caviezel), Gandalf (Ian McKellen), and Gellert Grindelwald from the Harry Potter series (Jamie Campbell Bower) all being in the same series. For another thing, it seems more linear in its storytelling/plotting. I guess it's a case of apples and oranges and comparisons thereof.

Here's where the irony starts to creep in: I got up this morning to check the news headlines online, and come to find out, film-score composer John Barry has passed away. Probably the most famous thing he wrote is the "James Bond" theme. The irony being that Patrick McGoohan, the star of the 1967 version of "The Prisoner", famously turned down the role of James Bond because he wasn't comfortable with the character's morals.

Yeah, apparently one can't like both? IDK. I told my mum's friend to watch it and he really disliked the 2009 version, though he loved the other one.

And yes. Gandalf, JC and Gellert being in the same show is awesome. *g*

I like each version in its own way but the more I watched it (repeated viewings) the more I prefer the 2009 version. Many people didn't give it a chance by directly comparing it to the original. If it had been on its own merits it may have fared better (like Inception...). I saw some people refused to watch it purely because they changed the setting from seaside to desert!

Further amusement I had when I was RPing 11-12 elsewhere he ironically became friends with Judas (from Jesus Christ Superstar) and I also had an older Gellert at that same RP in which I used Ian McKellen for his icons... Yes, 11-12 did notice in-game.

Also if an Arthur (Inception) ever turned up 11-12 may freak out a little since he had some strange experiences with a 'lookalike' (same actor).
