Now I just have to copy-paste all the fragments together, though tomboy_typist has suggested that I do the post-modern thing and leave it in fragments. I said I'd think about it, then I almost decided "Naaah...". But now a part of me is thinking it might be a good idea: I have a framing story that the text was supposedly discovered by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Hades when they obtained a search warrant for Muraki's family mansion. And who's to say that a certain clumsy shinigami didn't drop the file and scatter the pages.

It also fits since it mirrors Muraki's own madness, as he loses himself to his inner demons.

I'm still thinking about the possibility of leaving the fic as is, but I'm not sure the folks in charge of the challenge, or the artist who's doing the artwork for it, would really cotton to the experimental writing. I might keep one copy for myself and make another copy of the file that is the "edited" version. The thing is, I'm having trouble copy-pasting large amounts of text on the laptop, since I'm having trouble with the touchpad. I might invest in a mouse for the laptop. Or I might take the file to the library and patch it all together there, though it's likely to be s bit time-consuming (not that I mind). We'll see...

comments

Had an appointment with my therapist this morning, but once I got out and I'd headed downtown to take care of some bank business, I started feeling hellaciously tired, sure sign that *that time of the month* was upon me. Ended up coming home, crawling into my jim-jams and crawling between the covers with my plush Eeyore for a few hours. I'm alert now, but I'm still feeling out of it. I'd wanted to get some writing done tonight, plus I have RP tags to hit, but the creative centers of the brain are shut down. So, I'm using what energy I have to type up fics that need to be typed. Like the "vampirebigbang" fic that needs to be typed since the deadline is coming up later this month.

And I need to be tied down: I signed up for an Mpreg bigbang for a challenge on LJ. I have a YnM Mpreg fic that's sitting in a notebook twigging my mind and now I have a safe venue to post it. Yeah, given that Mpreg is my guilty pleasure, it's embarrassing to talk about: most of the time, it's badly thought-out and more about the ficthor's tastes than about the story, but I think I can avoid that. And since weird magic and genderbending is involved, it should be a bit less haphazard than some.

comments

I've been erratic about posting lately, due in part to Reading A Lot of Books Lately and Watching a Lot of Things Lately and to having erratic sleep patterns caused by critters. The woodpecker has been up to his tricks, hammering on the white trim of our house (which my dad has recently just repainted). I've been sticking my head out the window or running outside and yelling at him. It seems the best way to drive off Woody, according to various articles I've dug up online.

Finished reading "The Help": usually I tend to steer clear of Very Popular Books since all too often they seem to end up Not Worth My Time, but then I cave in to See What All The Excitement Is About. This time, however, the pattern of Popular Book Turns Out To Be Crappy has been broken: It's very good, like a combination of "The Remains of the Day" and "To Kill A Mockingbird" with a whiff of "Mississippi Burning". I totally relate to all three of the main female characters: like Aibileen and Minny, I work a thankless job where I don't get a lot of respect (though my lot isn't as hard as theirs, of course), but like Skeeter, I'm still trying to get my feet under me and find my niche in life. Dare I say, I'm tempted to bring Skeeter or Aibileen to a certain Mansion, since I need more Normal People on my roster.

Speaking of which, I'm going to RP Hell: I'm putting Alice the sparkle-pire on reserve.

Also have been reading several Doctor Who novels I've picked up here and there: found one set at Halloween in a New England town (featuring Ten and Martha). I think I know what I'm reading for October!

Ordered the next volume of the classic penny dreadful Varney the Vampire, though I probably should read the first one.

Have been watching The Gates, courtesy of AJ at carpe_ooc: it's kind of like Desperate Housewives meets True Blood, but still fun to watch. Also had a "Hey It's That Guy" moment, when I realized Paul Blackthorne, aka TV verse!Harry Dresden has a role in it.

Also, I'm staying on top of episodes of Torchwood: Miracle Day. I can't say why, at least not right now, but I have a bad feeling about a main character, but I'd have to post a whole entry about my reaction to the series. I'm gonna wait till after this Friday before I jump to any conclusions, though.

comments

So, as has become a new tradition, my dad got free tickets to the Boston Pops concert in Hyannis, and we made plans to go yesterday

And then it rained like mad yesterday morning. The three of us got drenched just coming out of St. Mary's in Newton after Mass, and it kept coming down as my dad and I headed down to the Cape later that afternoon. We even stopped at a grocery store and got some cheap garbage bags to use as disposable rain gear.

The concert got started late and then it was cut short since the rain was just Not Letting Up. It would get lighter and then heavier, but it was also windy, which didn't really help matters, particularly when it came to Using an Umbrella. But we still had fun and we're likely to be back next year. I guess this makes us die hard fans of the Boston Pops, if we made it through a rainy concert.

comments

So, turns out LJ is victim to yet another DDoS attack, much like the one that crippled the site for a week back in March. I had a feeling, on the second day of trouble, that it was a DDoS attack, and sure enough, http://status.livejournal.org confirmed my suspicions this morning. Wonder who's behind it this time (zat you, Anonymous??)? I suspect this might not be limited to LJ, as FaceBook, InsaneJournal and Dreamwidth have been a bit scothery this week as well. I ran across some info to the effect that this attack is so bad it's crippling LJ's service providers, so this is starting to look like the work of Anon...

I'm still hammering out more of my vampirebigbang fic and clearing my LJ cookies every time I try to access the site.

( Cut for length... )

comments

Not in a good mood. Not in a good mood at all for several reasons.

1. That time of the month, which is never a good time anyway, but this is compounded by:

2. Tripping on the stairs Saturday night and bruising my foot. Which meant

3. I had to work today on a bruised foot. Ended up having to leave early because the foot decided it didn't want to keep playing.

4.
