matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Thanksgiving)

Black Friday morning

Dinner at Cracker Barrel yesterday, our third Thanksgiving in a row, and this year, the fireplace was lit! I also slept in yesterday morning -- I needed it after bagging an insane number of turkeys for the past two weeks. One reason I've been rather absent from this LJ: I've been working crazy amounts of hours (at last) and due to the increased turkey parade, I've been more tired than usual.

Also noticed a lot more people than usual were buying bags of whole cranberries; didn't see as much of the canned jellied or even the whole berry stuff as usual. Odd.

And since we found a TV station which shows mostly movies, yesterday also had the feel of the holidays I remember as a kid, when they'd show movie classics or movie versions of the classics. Watched a German/Estonian/Korean version of "A Christmas Carol" (dubbed, yes; what's with that combination of animation houses?? It's like the UN of animation...), and it also dawned on my mother and I that we have never read "A Christmas Carol" together. I read it as a kid when I was curled up on the couch recovering from a stomach bug (I think I was eleven...), and I did a book report on it, but she and I have never read it together. This year, I will be making up for it: I decided to read it aloud to her, a few pages a day till Christmas, like an Advent calender.

Now thinking of braving the crowds at the malls: the battery died on my cellphone, and I need green tea. Plus, I could use the walk.

And... it isn't Thanksgiving weekend, till you've listened to Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant". Found an utterly delightful vid of it on Youtube:

Thanksgiving craziness and fun with a webcam

Hoo... Finally finished with this year's Thanksgiving week wackiness. Today I wad bagging fresh rather than frozen turkeys, which are less bowling-ball-like than their frozen cousins. I'm off to take a well-deserved rest and read a bit before supper.

But first, let me share my first ever video recorded via the webcam on the laptop. Eeyore just wanted to say hello:

I don't think it gets any funnier and it's given me the impetus to re-read "The Graveyard Book"...

EDIT: Okay, the embed code decided to break itself, so I simply tossed the link up. Let's hope that works.

I see I'm not the only one to make this crossover...

I *am* trying to get back to work on my Yami no Matsuei/Twhinelite crossover. Well... turns out someone has created a crazy fanvid in which they took the audio from one of the Twilight movie trailers and they fit several YnM clips to it:

Does this remind any other Mecha-huggers of the scenes at the dinner table in a certain movie...?

"Night of the Living Bread"

Has to be one of the most deliberately corny films ever, and it's quite obviously a George Romero parody. Very low-budget, but that adds to the charm. You have to see this to believe it, it's so peculiar.

Even the credits are funny. Most of the crew are "bread wranglers"!

Real-life Watchmen???

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2009/04/28/dnt.oh.shadowhare.superhero.wlwt

Seems there's a group of kids in Cincinnati who have banded together as real-life costumed crime-fighters. I don't know if this is a good and quirky idea or a not-so-good idea.

Yaaaayyy!! Not *quite* halfway through, but well on the way. I'm feeling utterly proud of myself for making it this far. Let's hope I hit 25K in the next day or so.

And to celebrate, here's "The Matrix Runs on Windows":

'The Halloween that almost wasn't'

There's nothing you can't find on YouTube. I remember watching this one when I was a kid in the early 1980s. Featuring some cheezily atmospheric sets, and Judd Hirsch as Dracula, with the corniest Bela Lugosi Hungarian accent:

Best MST3K Episode ever: "MANOS: The Hands of Fate"

Part one of the best riffing on the worst movie ever: I swear the movie is supposed to be riffing from H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard somehow, but the whole thing is so horribly done that you wind up laughing at it, ala "The Eye of Argon". Just beware of the "Torgo" theme on the soundtrack: it gets stuuuuuuck in your head.

For those of you who love MST3K, what do you reccommend as the next-best episode? I've found a bunch on YouTube and I'm having a hard time deciding which one to view next.

EDITED TO ADD: Someone did a "MANOS" music video set to "Hotel California". It works so well, it's scary:

Prepping for a future BLITEOTW, and in case we have a zombie apocalypse instead of a vampire one:

I got introduced to this zany machanima (ie. an animated series that uses a multiplayer game engine for their animation, in this case, the Halo series) thanks to my crazy friends in MxO.

Okay, I'm not much of a Red Sox fan (only time I half-watch their games is if they've made it to the World Series), but I love the Dropkick Murphys' video of their semi-official anthem, "Tessie":

Utterly *AWESOME* MxO video, set to Marilyn Manson's cover of "This Is Halloween".
