Bus chasing and icons

I've been chasing buses all afternoon, after a long night of fighting with the maddeningly rattly window in my bedroom (I finally started wondering if a demon had decided to have its idea of fun with the window, so I sprinkled the panes with some holy water. Oddly enough, that seemed to work. I'll have to check and see if the St. Benedict medal I had hung up over the frame might have fallen down...). But, I seem to be having a better day, in spite of it: I nipped downtown to see if the Pollard Library might have a better book on Macs, but no such luck. I caught myself muttering under my breath, "Is there some rule in this library system which states that all books relating to Macintosh computers must be no newer than five years old?", and I'd somehow taken on Flood's South London accent. I wasn't even conscious that he'd started fronting, and I hadn't even engaged the link to his psyche... wierd. So I took a look in the Barnes and Noble, and found just the book I need: only catch is, it cost $30 US, so I'll have to wait till I get my paycheck before I get that book.

Plus, I discovered that one of the newer computers at the library has MS Photo Editor, so I had some fun making LJ icons .

My new default icon: based on a shot from "The Matrix: Revolutions". I call it "Crux Neo". [livejournal.com profile] he_dreams_awake, I thought of you when I made this one.

The DC/Vertigo logo: If someone could animate this one so that it spins, I'd be delighted!

A couple Flood icons. He detests the one on the left, since supposedly that's the dreadful photo on his Green Card; in his words, "It barely looks like me: It's a wonder I don't get deported on that count." The wording for the one on the right is a rip on Descartes's "Cogito Ergo Sum" (I think, therefore I am). I wasn't sure what the Latin for "snark" was, and it's funnier to mix Latin and English.

I love this Merv icon... there are not enough good ones of this fella, and I'm gonna make up for it.

Feel free to take any of 'em: just give credit in your userpic comments or whathaveyou.

Gufgh... What comes of *not* previewing the entry first. Thanks for pointing that out! They're working now.

All right, forgive me, I've got to set this straight - it's "mon amie," because "amie" begisn with a vowel. I know, I know, French doesn't make sense.

But I bet Merv appreciates my Grammar Nazi - ism.

He's smirking with delight, I'm afraid...

There's shockingly few good Merv icons out there, but I was lucky to find this one.

I was under the impression that it was ma amie because it's the feminine version. It's mon ami when refering to a guy.

You'd think, wouldn't you? But because it starts with a vowel, and because the French are obsessed with how smoothly things sound, it's always "mon amie."

See: http://french.about.com/library/weekly/aa102599.htm

When a feminine noun begins with a vowel, the masculine possessive is used in order to keep from saying something like "ma amie," where the flow of the sentence would be broken.

Now I feel like a total ass for bringing it up, but I felt obligated to prove I learned SOMETHING in three years of French. :P
