Re: The Gossip Meme
Dec. 5th, 2005 07:18 pm...Which I removed, since it was causing more trouble than it was worth.
This is not an easy subject for me to talk about, since it's extremely personal, and the issue at stake is something that's very emotionally painful.
Several years ago, my mother confronted my grandmother (her mother) about the sexual abuse which she (my mother)suffered at the hands of her father (my grandmother's rat bastard of a husband, aka the poster for the problem drinker), which her mother did nothing to stop, and which directly caused my mother's severe depression/PTSD. During the confrontation, my grandmother acknowledged that her husband had done terrible things to his family, not just to my mother, but to several other of her siblings; but afterwards, my grandmother turned around and told the rest of her children that my mother had been "the other woman" in the family relationship and that she'd been "asking for" the sexual abuse. Several versions of the story came back to us, and some of my mother's childhood friends stopped talking to her entirely on account of it.
The abuse happened when my mother was four years old. How the hell could she have been "asking for it"? If I could speak to these people, I'd come right out and say, "How the hell does a four year old girl ask to be sexually abused?! What do you idiots think, that she walked up to her father, hiked up her little dress and said, 'Daddy, I'm bored. How 'bout you fuck me up up my little cunt?' She was a *CHILD* for the love of God! She didn't know a goddamned thing about that sort of shit! You people are lower life-forms than mud if you think she was asking for it. Leo Dunn was a bastard and a pervert, and if you believe otherwise, your head is so fucked it's a wonder you even know how to wipe your own bloody asses. Welcome to the goddamned real world, where fucked-up adults fuck up the lives of the little children they're supposed to protect from this sort of shit." We've had to cut ties with my mother's side of the family, since they only want to believe the lies their mommie told them, instead of hearing the truth.
Anyone here have a picture file of Geoff Darrrow's concept art for the Power Plants in the "Matrix" series? Because I'm tempted to caption it "The Dunn Family Tree" and put the names of my mother's relatives under the coppertops in the pods.

If you ever want someone to take a baseball bat to your grandmother's head, I'm your woman. That is sick and twisted and vicious shit she's spewing. It's hard to believe that a human being could be so totally and completely WRONG, and disasterously so.

Date: 2005-12-06 01:33 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, it's not just stupid, ignorant fuckheads (who've probably been fed a heavily distorted version of the story by your grandmother) who think kids are capable of "asking for" sexual abuse. Anna C. Salter cites some papers on child sexual abuse in her book Predators, written by psychologists, which put the blame on the child, on "subconcious lesbian tendencies in the mother" (for fuck's sake!), basically anywhere but on the cunt who actually perpetrated the abuse.
