Red King Seeing Red
Another good title might be "MR seeing pink and getting dry-mouthed; why can't Paul "Canon Casualties" Chadwick and the PC Brothers keep someone she likes out of the gunsights for a change?!" This is gonna be a long-winded post, so you might want to get yourself a sandwich and/or a cup of your beverage of choice (I'm reccommending a nice cup of hot chocolate; the Merv suggests hot, mulled Merlot...).
This thread over on the MxO boards got me nervous when I read it before I/Sieges ran a few missions last night. I'm rather glad I read it, since it gave me fair warning of what to expect in the new cinematic (ie. video clips that help introduce/advance the plot for the next part of the current story arc. Sieges/I finally has/have enough rep points that she/I can start running critical missions (ie. ones that are integral to the plot). For those of you who are coming in cold, they've introduced an odd new character "the General", who appears to be either a Machine program or an Exile program working for the Machines or an Exile who's trying to create his own power base (possibly at the expense of the Merv's existence). Either way, the guy seems to be responsible for the anNOYing helicopters buzzing around, dropping leaflets reading "Do Not Trust the Frenchman", the ones which put Ref in a tizzy back in October. I commented on the thread, to the tune that I didn't want to see anyone putting daylight through the Merv, since I've seen too many fanbrats write fics where their little Mary Sue does just that. Naturally, this put Sieges on the warpath, and I'm on tenterhooks myself, since I doubt that I'll have much time to jack into the MxO tonight, before tomorrow...
Why, what's tomorrow? you're asking.
Call it that case of the Girl Who Has Too Much Information in Her Head. Tomorrow is, obviously, December 23rd, which in the old (pre-1962) Catholic calender, marked the feast of St. Dagobert, one of the last of the Merovingian kings, who was horribly murdered/martyred/assassinated (in some old books, he's listed as a martyr, but that status is rather questionable, since his killers seemed to be mostly politically motivated, not religiously; calling him a martyr would be like Catholics in the U.S. insisting on calling JFK a martyr) while he was out hunting (it appears to have been something of an inside job, since one of the killers was one of his bodyguards). Putting two and two together, you see where my mind is going with this. The PC Brothers already had an uprising among the Merv's vampiric and lupine guards back in May in the timeline of their tinkertoy, which we all know had me in a tizzy. The timing is just Not Good.
Sieges and I did our best to keep the information from the Merv last night, but Ref called in, as it were, to check on things, and *he* insisted on speaking with me... Well, he sort of found out that they may be drawing a bead on him again: I have a terrible time witholding information, and unfortunately, he's figured out ways to get me to play into his hand. At least he took it well: he even laughed at it a little.
Then something wierd happened this morning. I was just waking up at around nine this morning, when I swore I heard machinegunfire. I thought it was a dream, but later on, as I checked in on the Houseparty during a rare lull at work, I found out there was more to it.... First off, I couldn't find the Merv and his cohorts at first, but then I got a "mental cellphone call" from Flood. He started by reassuring me that Ref and the Merv were unharmed, but that there'd been an intruder who'd gotten onto the balcony of the Merv's apartment in the City while Ref and the Merv were having breakfast in bed, and had succeeded in shooting out the windows, and shooting up the furniture and the walls. In Flood's words, "Thank Codestream for inept assassins." Though he eventually admitted that he got clipped in the arm while trying to shoot the intruder. He claims he made the killing shot, but I think the Merv's vampires would tell a different story, if I were a little more in tune with them.
Naturally the Merv is not taking this well at all, not just because he nearly got his skinny ass shot off, but because he thinks the tinkertoy gave someone some ideas... We've had to listen to him rant and rave again, and frankly, we're all tired of it, both the cause and the effect.
I'm beginning to wonder if there might not be more to what's going on in the Tinkertoy than what some of us would hope. I keep hoping someone among the devs will finally see what's going on and try to push things in that direction, instead of letting the Zionite hotheads (players, that is) take this thing and run with it. As
he_dreams_awake has said time and time again, "Peace is not an MMORPG". For two of my fellows, it's rather like having odd (though not horrible) RPFs written about them, but other times... maybe the devs are on to something. For that matter, Flood has an LJ of his own which he's considering posting in from time to time. This was going to be an RP journal, but he wants to do more with it:
a_flood. Come to find out, though, he's got an impersonator:
__flood. Of course the Merv find this inordinately funny: "A matched pair...", said with a smirk of delight. Said Ref, "One's bad enough, but two?!"
