Roses are red,
Violets are purple,
Which is a very hard word to rhyme
And makes me happy that on February the 14th we don't traditionally have to give each other oranges.

Priceless...

Purple is a very difficult word to rhyme, I wouldn't blame anyone for not attempting it. However, being a person who loves oranges, I think we ought to begin the tradition of giving each other oranges for St. Valentine's day. Oranges are yummy after all, plus they're good for you, and they make wonderful juice. If I was given an orange on St. Valentine's day, or any other day for that matter, I would be happy to give it a new home.

The only word that I know of that rhymes with "purple" is "urple", a term used in fanfiction circles to describe writing that's too loaded with adjectives and descruiptives, but it's really not the sort of word you want to use in a love poem, unless of course your beloved and you are both into fanfiction.

And you're right about the oranges! Let the lovey-dovey couples give each other chocolates, us folks who want to pay tribute to friendship-love and to show their friends how much they love each other can give one another oranges.

Come to think of it, I think there's some little European Christmas tradition involving oranges, but I can't remember what country it came from, or what it entailed. I'll have to check my extensive library of Christmas books...
