Cogito ergo Boom
Sep. 6th, 2005 12:11 amJust been watching more of the disks on The Box (ie. the "Matrix" boxed set), specifically Disk 8: "The Roots of the Matrix", and especially the first of the two documentaries on that "Return to the Source: Philosophy and the Matrix". Lots of food for thought there, lots of commentary by philosophy professors, including among many others William Irwin (he of the two "Matrix and Philosophy" books) and the "in-house" philosopher, Cornell West (aka. "Councillor West"). I may have to rewatch it, since they teased apart so many different ideas from the fabric of the plot.
Which only makes me wonder how in hell the fanbrats can write bad fanfics about something that's so bloody deep and thought-provoking. Maybe they're only looking at the eye candy. Maybe they're in a Matrix of their own making. Maybe they're just trapped in the Matrix of modern/post-modern life. Maybe it's the herd mentality. Maybe it's because they never learned the art of critical thinking, something the modern public schools just don't teach (and some private schools, neither).
((I'm babbling like this to get my mind off my own pain. Someone pray that a steam roller falls on my boss's wife, or that tonight is my last night on this fucking planet.))
