matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Diary)
To Laurie and Puck and [livejournal.com profile] likeaphoenix: sorry about that disappearing act last night. The Internet went wierd on me suddenly, and then Juno wouldn't connect. I ran a bug check, restarted the computer, changed my access numbers: still nothing. It was like trying to call someone who had their phone off the hook. I'm guessing Juno must have been running maintenance on their servers last night.

So, I called it a night and worked on a little writing: I've been tinkering with that "Matrix" Mpreg fic I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] 31_days, and the mild fright I had on dealing with the dumb computer really helped me write a tense little scene involving the Twins spooking someone who shouldn't be spooked. I'm having fun writing this fic, though I'm probably having fun at a certain someone's expense. Goodness knows how he'll make me pay for that. Hopefully I can get it done before November 1st, when I have to go into overdrive writing my NaNoWriMo novel; not sure when/if I'll get much time to type the fic up then. I've been pretty much taking it easy as far as writing goes, this month, aside from a few ficlets and thought exercises. I'm resting up for the long haul... Just added a little "NaNoWriMo Participant" image to the userinfo page here.

...and I'm suddenly jittery over the idea of setting up the new comp. Connecting the cables, etc. always makes me nervous... though first I'll have to unhook the old computer, pack that up and set up the new one here in the study. My mom suggested taking this box and using it downstairs, but do I really want to inflict this thing and all its bugs on her? I'm tempted to ask my dad if he can get his friend the computer whiz at work to come over and give me a hand, just as some moral support.

Got the Flash drive earlier this evening, and on the way back, my dad got it into his head to go up the Loop Mall again and see if he couldn't find more of a series of toy classic cars he's been collecting. So while he was doing that, my mom and I nipped into the Borders bookstore there. Man, they've got a bunch of Neil Gaiman's miscellaneous (ie. non-DC/Vertigo) graphic novels. I almost bought "Harlequin Valentine", but I need the cash to buy a black tie for my Constantine costume. I'm almost all set for the big night: I just need the tie and to make a stencil for the (temporary) arm tattoos: I ran across the perfect image to use, so I'll take that into Lowell on Tuesday and blow it up to the right size before I print it out and use it for a template to trace onto some waxed paper.
