Coming out in bits and bytes

...My Christmas fic that is. I've been writing it in between running errands with my mom and helping her clean the living room (the tree may be coming in tonight, but maybe not, since we have to go to the library). I hope I can get away with renewing one of the books I took out last time, namely Meg Cabot's "Holiday Princess", a very clever and informative spin off from her "Princess Diaries" series (I have to admit to liking that series, even though the more recent volumes have been kinda "ennh", and there tends to be more teenage snoogy-oogy crap than I can take: I like Mia's snarky sense of humor). I suspect Ms. Cabot might be Catholic or was raised Catholic: the book contains a *LOT* of references to Catholic Christmas customs and there's a great little bit about St. Nicholas and how he became Santa Claus to us. (Did you know that Santa's nickname "Kris Kringle" comes from a garbled version of the Dutch "Kristkindl". The Protestants tried to hedge out St. Nicholas and substitute him with the Christ Child ["Kristkindl" in Dutch]. Whatever floats your boat, but this one-quarter French madamoiselle is gonna give/receive teeny packages on Dec. 6th, s'il vous plait...).
