Hideously hot...
Aug. 2nd, 2006 01:43 am... And it's supposed to be worse tomorrow. I have an appointment in Lowell, but I think I'll just cancel it and reschedule when it's cooler.
Thus, the twits at work were super-whiny about the weather. I swear, every single customer that came through the register was whining about the heat. Has it occured to them that their whining just might be making the hot weather feel more welcome and thus it hangs around all the more?! Or at least, that's how it seems: the more they whine, the hotter it gets.
And the lights went out while we were having supper. Obviously, they're back on now, or else I wouldn't be posting this, but I was scared to death that the lights wouldn't come back on and that we'd all end up dying of heat stroke tomorrow.
The only bright spot of the day: Finding that Susannah Clarke's "Johnathon Strange and Mr. Norrell" came out in the much-easier-to-hold mass-market paperback edition and buying a copy at work. That was my reward for not trying to choke the whiny customers, or cursing them all with death by heat stroke.
Oh, and it looks like she's got a short-story collection coming out in September. So does Neil Gaiman. Two great fantasy writers in one season...
