Writer's Block: Space Wars

I'm usually not big on space sci-fi, unless it really twigs my interest. Cases in point:
--"2001: A Space Odyssey": I was only one in my family who "got it" and I gladly explained it to my dad.
--Frank Herbert's "Dune" series: I'll admit to being a wee bit more partial to the prequel novels and the concluding volumes written (in whole or in part) by his son Brian. The characters just seem more interesting and easier to care about.
--Not a movie or a book, but EvE Online: I'd still be playing if I hadn't had to make some financial decisions, and if not for the incident with the Goon Swarm sending a spy to Band of Brothers, the largest player corporation, and wiping out BoB's financial assets. Much as I liked the universe and the storylines, I decided it was not worth the risk of running into a Bernie Madoff in training.
