Ancestor search

Called the Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem to see if they can point in the right direction in the search for more information about Sarah Jones, my mom's ancestor who lived in Salem about the time of the Witch Hysteria. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of calling after hours, and I only got a recording/the voicemail for their library. So I left a message that I was researching my family tree and an ancestor who'd lived in the area in the late 1600s. Let's see if I get any results.

I Love Doing Genealogical Research!

Hee, isn't it so fascinating to find out who your ancestors were and what their world was like? The little that I know about Sarah Jones is that she was about 11 or 12 about the time of the Witch Hysteria in Salem: it's highly unlikely that she was caught up in it, since she seemed to have lived in the part known as Salem Town, which is now the town of Salem itself, while most of the hysteria happened in Salem Town, which today is the town of Danvers. I'm very curious to know if she was related in any way to Governor William Jones, who put a stop to all the foolish accusations and released all the accused.

Being able to do family research is something I've missed out on (due to my family's more tribal background) and I kinda envy people that *can* do it and somewhat easily. I've always been fascinated by family trees and even build them for my fictional characters- I especially love it when something chosen at random for a character proves to be an ethnological marking (for example, both Nitika's surname and Cal's maternal surnames mean 'wolf', and Ilia's last name means that his ancestors were from a region in Hungary- Sárköz- that's halfway across the country from where he was born...and which, embarrassingly, I've only just realized how to pronounce correctly!)
