Bittersweet yard sale
Aug. 26th, 2008 10:28 amMy dad and I spent much of Sunday helping his co-worker "Don" and Mrs. Don with a yard sale to help some friends of theirs, who recently lost their business, a small local chain of jewellry stores, due to a bad investment which a family member had made, and thus, for various reasons, they ended up having to move back to their native country, India, leaving a lot of their less-than-neccessary possessions behind: dishes, Christmas ornaments, curtains, sheets and towels, a couple small beds. Add to this, their older daughter just was diagnosed with advanced bone cancer: poor people can't get a break... Their house just got sold, so the remaining odds and ends had to get moved somehow, so Don and his wife took that upon themselves. They sold a good chunk of the stuff, but there was still quite a bit left when we finished up late in the afternoon. It was fun to help, but it was sad as well, considering the circumstances that caused the sale to be held...
