. . . I am actually sticking up for the "Twilight" series.

Wait, don't worry, I haven't been infected with the squee-bug. I've been poking around several contra-"Twilight" sites, looking for some kindred souls, and while I've found people on the same wavelength as I am, I have found some who frankly scare and annoy me.

The reason being, some LJ icons calling Edward Cullen "a pedophile", merely because he's over 100 years old versus Bella's 17. But isn't he perpetually 17 physically and emotionally, despite this (correct me on this, if I'm wrong)? If you follow that line of reasoning, every May/September or May/December romance is "pedophilia". And since my mother was abused by her serial child-molesting father, I find that comparison distasteful at best, offensive at worst.

*nods* I've noticed that a lot when it comes to series with immortal characters. There's always a few people for whom age is solely a matter of chronology, and they're usually the newbies. Personally I work on the principle that if they're chronologically north of 100 and physically south of thirty (although this is adjusted according the how old the other half of the relationship is), then who cares.

Edwards still a creepy stalker though.

Heh, God help the people with this line of thinking who read the Neon Genesis Evangelion fic I'm tinkering with, since it has a double May/September romance between a fifty-nine year old man and a Grigori woman who's over 200 years old, but doesn't look a day over twenty-five, and her kinsfolk wipe her memory every fifty years, so she's been lead to believe she *is* only twenty-five...

*blinks* Okay, I can see that scenario breaking more then a few brains, particuarly since the NGE fandom hasn't had much practice in this department, unlike the Trinity Blood fandom for example, the majority of which doesn't even blink at stuff like this, which is probably just as well since the main character is over 1000 (yes, he's a man of the cloth but since when has that stopped the fan girls, not to mention that it's implied that certain vows are optional in the TB verse).
