matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code ("Welcome to my Life")

I don't exactly have writer's block, but I've been reading the notes a friend of mine shared with me, for a massive writing project he's working on, and while I'm not at liberty to discuss the details, I have to say that his ideas are so brilliant and original, I just feel like a lousy writer by comparison, that I just regurgitate pre-existing cliches and I have nothing new to bring to the world, that I'm no more deep a writer than Stephanie Meyers...

I'd better stop...

A writer's worst critic is himself/herself. Don't let others get you down.

Two writers can be equally deep, like two streams, but if one has nothing but mud at the bottom, while the other has sparkling stones, there's still a big difference between them.

And that said, you're one of the best writers I know--with a lot more depth than Stephanie Meyers

Been there my friend, been there and still go there on occasion. In my case the people making my efforts seem naff were a couple of guys in my Creative Writing class who were really, really good. I try and look at it this way, I may not be the best writer on the planet but I sure as hell am not the worst and there's plenty worse then me who've been published, so the odds are good that someone out there's going to like my work.

Oh, my pal wasn't being critical, if anything, he's in my corner as a writer. I just had a moment of insecurity and felt like my work falls flat next to his.
