matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Hey_Joe)

Sorry I've been quiet lately... I've had a lot on my mind that I didn't feel ready to share, and I was afraid of boring you all with it...

But on a lighter note than usual: I officially got my Christmas Shopping started today: The local Hallmark Gold Crown Store was having their annual open house, so I carved some time out of my tight schedule and headed over there. I got a new Nativity scene to put under our Christmas tree. I had been using this hand-carved wooden one, but I nearly killed my foot stepping on one of the Three Wise Men last year, plus it's always getting knocked down whenever someone is moving packages around under it... So, there was a coupon in the mail for $5 off their new "Keepsake Kids" cloth ornaments for the wee ones, and since they had a lovely little Nativity scne, I got that... Also got Chris Van Allsburg's "The Polar Express" -- I cannot wait to see the movie version coming out soon. And I got a few other things, but I'm keeping that under wraps until Christmas. The Christmas Angel has officially appointed my room as an annex for storing presents... ;8^D

And Book 6 of "The Sandman" showed up in the mail today. Already skimming through it, and trying not to squee too loudly when I spot Desire ::Shrlurp!::

Speaking of which, I finished drafting my "A.I."/Sandman crossover on Thursday: now I just gotta type that up and share it with my beta-reader for this one...

My mom and I went to First Friday devotions yesterday: Unfortunately, I had some urgent business to take care of at the Lowell Library, so I was in and out of St. Joseph's. I managed to nip into the Barnes & Noble for a minute to buy Jean Shepherd's "A Christmas Story", the book which -- yep! -- inspired the Christmas comedy classic, which I saw for the first time last year thanks to my buddy Mark. So that inspired me to dig out my collection of Christmas books...

And the movie version of another favorite Christmas story of mine is about to be released: "Skipping Christmas", by John Grisham. I'm a little ambivalent about seeing it, since Tim Allen will be playing Luther Krank, the put-upon protagonist, and I don't particularly care for him. A little too goofy if you ask me: If I had been directing this, I'd have made it more of a dead-pan/exasperated comedy. I'd cast William Hurt as Mr. Krank... the thing is: Mr. Krank isn't a funny character; he's a regular, slightly selfish guy who gets himself into a wierd, wacky series of mishaps all because he and his wife make some rather selfish choices. It needs a straight actor as opposed to a silly actor playing the part... but that of course is just my not-so-humble opinion.
