Slow healing
Jul. 24th, 2009 02:18 amI "adopted" a WebKinz budgie -- which doesn't really look much like a budgie as it does look like a peculiar green finch with a yellow head and a black beak, but is still cute in its own way -- as a way to remember Merry. Oddly enough, its plush feathers are just as soft and silky as Merry's were. Not sure what to name him, but I will come up with something eventually.
We're thinking about adopting another parakeet soon, but I'll admit, I have mixed feelings. Part of me wants another bird, but another part isn't ready. I guess part of me doesn't want to suffer the pain of eventually having to say good bye to another little feathered friend someday. Still, the house is too quiet without a parakeet chattering and ringing his bells and annoying Oskar the cockatiel. It's really up to my mom and she's said she wants to start looking for another parakeet to adopt, on Saturday.
Had a busy day taking care of my paycheck and bank stuff, plus trawling a consignment shop while my dad tried to sell some chairs we'd had in our attic, as well as my once-a-month trip to the Salem, N.H. Barnes & Noble, where I got the new collection of Neil Gaiman's assorted Batman Comics and the latest issue of the Supernatural fan magazine, plus, for my mom, a new book on parakeets.

Date: 2009-07-24 07:58 am (UTC)I know what you mean, when my dog died this May--I felt like I didn't want to get another dog for a good long time. But we got one about three weeks later, and she has helped to fill the hole in my heart. Still, I know it can be so hard. Good luck with everything!
Ah--your bookstore finds sound great, more and more of my friends are raving about Neil Gaiman, and this is sorely tempting me to look into his work...
