Just a bit of Tsuzuki/Hisoka fluff, though there's a hint of Tatsumi being Tatsumi and making trouble for them
Prompt: "We were on a break!"
Pairing: Tsuzuki/Hisoka, hints of Tatsumi/Tsuzuki
Word Count: 520
Tsuzuki didn't see it coming: perhaps, in his usual cheerful obliviousness, he simply didn't want to think about it.
But late that afternoon, found him and Hisoka on the figurative carpet in Tatsumi's office, taking the heat for something they didn't expect.
Tatsumi opened a file folder and took out several large, glossy color photographs, pushing them across the top of the desk toward them. "Intelligence from a source that I cannot identify sent these to me," he said.
"Do you wish to explain them?"
The eight by tens showed some casual shots of Tsuzuki and Hisoka on the terrace behind the Ministry of Hades: one depicted them sitting on a white cast iron patio table, sharing a snack, Tsuzuki with his arm draped over the younger shinigami's shoulder. Another showed them laying stretched out under a tree, Hisoka reading while Tsuzuki lay snoozing with his head pillowed on his lap. a third showed them laying snuggled together on a sunny patch on the cobbles of the patio.
"Who took these? Is the Count up to his tricks again, taking pictures of of me on the sly with that hidden camera again?!" Tsuzuki cried, his fist clenching.
Tatsumi adjusted his half-rimmed eyeglasses. "I'm not cleared to disclose who took these pictures, but I can say that they were taken when you were on the clock."
"Well, we were on a break and...we're close," Tsuzuki said. "Is there anything wrong in that?"
"Not in and of itself," Tatsumi replied. "But it isn't the most proper thing to engage in, since you are, after all, work partners. What you do in your own time and space is one thing, but when you're on the clock, you can't be fraternizing or engaging in this sort of behavior."
"But we were on a break!" Tsuzuki insisted.
Hisoka raised one hand, interposing. "I'm just as much to blame as Tsuzuki," he said. "I shouldn't have encouraged him, Tatsumi; I'm sorry."
"What? Whose side are you on, Hisoka?!" Tsuzuki cried, wibbling.
"We were both responsible for what happened in those pictures, we're both in this together," Hisoka said, with a calm smile meant to reassure his partner.
"That is true," Tsuzuki admitted, starting to calm back down, as suddenly as he had gotten flustered. Turning back toward Tatsumi, he stood up and said, "It won't happen again, not while we're on the Ministry grounds. You have my word, Tatsumi."
"That's all that I wanted to hear from either of you," Tatsumi said, sliding the photographs back into their folder.
On their way out into the twilight, Tsuzuki turned to Hisoka, a frown wrinkling his face as if something had dawned on him. "That Tatsumi... I bet he was the one who took those photos or had them taken, because he was trying to get between us."
"I doubt that Tatsumi would stoop to something like that," Hisoka said. But he knew that Tatsumi had feelings for the violet eyed shinigami, and it had not taken him long to figure out that Tatsumi tended to come down hard on Tsuzuki out of concern. But he wouldn't rule out a hint of unconscious jealousy in Tatsumi's actions, at least as far as the pictures were concerned.
