As painful as the first one is, the second one was actually harder for me to write. Those who are in the know will probably guess why...
Title: Strained Relations
Day/Theme: August 31: Tell me, beloved rarity / tell me, rare love / where are you now?
Series: The Matrix Reloaded
Character/Pairing: Merv/Persephone
Rating: PG-13
I: Persephone's thoughts
Their times together had grown shorter and fewer and further between: Merovee spent more time out in the Matrix, tending to his business affairs than with her in the realm he had created in a corner of the Mainframe. Even when he came back to her side, he seemed colder, harder of heart, more distant. Even during the rare times when he made love to her, he did not seem fully present to her, not the way he had in the past. His presence, his essence no longer engulfed her in a delicious fire. By night she lay cold and alone, her arms empty as she wondered who had taken her place in his heart or his arms.
She wondered what had happened to the man who had pursued her heart so valiantly and whom she had allowed to capture her....
II: The Merovingian's thoughts
Where had she gone? Where had the charming girl he had married gotten to? Had his success spoiled her? Had his prestige among the humans, as well as among their own kind, gone to her lovely head? Is that why she had refused him when he had asked -- no, begged her to give him the singular gift of a child to carry on in his stead if -- Codestream forbid it! -- he should be destroyed or decompiled.
The Architect had given him the power to change and reshape things within the Matrix, but for all his power, he could not reshape his own wife's heart. If only she would give in to his supplications, this would cause such changes in their relations with one another. He had done all that he could to please her: why did she refuse him this one request?
He started to withdraw from her, in an effort to deprive her of the tenderness she savored, hoping thus to starve her into complying with his pleas. Instead, she seemed to steel herself against his tactics, turning to others for her sustenance. No matter: perhaps another could give him that which she refused him.

Title: Nothing Left to Lose
Day/Theme: August 31: Tell me, beloved rarity / tell me, rare love / where are you now?
Series: The Matrix Revolutions
Character/Pairing: Neo/Trinity
Rating: PG
Note: Takes place toward the climax, when Neo approaches the Machine City; stream-of-consciousness stuff, possibly angsty. I wrote this for my dear friends "Neo" and "Trinity" over on
for_zion. I love you guys.
You saved my life when my opposite number nearly cancelled me out, when I was stuck in the Matrix. I saved your life when the Agents would have snuffed it out, when you came into the Matrix even though I'd pleaded with you. You walked through hell itself to save me from the hands of an exploiter. But now you're gone and I can't bring you back. Now, I have to follow my path to the end alone. Single. Solitary. You gave me everything I needed to keep going, but now that I've lost you, what do I have left to lose?
It's all clear to me now: the score can only be settled with the price of my own life. That's a price I'm willing to pay, if that's what my opposite number demands, if it saves mankind and the Machines from their own folly, and if it keeps this from happening to another One. I'm going someplace you can't accompany me, even if you were still alive. How I wish you could be at my side, or that I could go where you have gone. Maybe I'll find you waiting for me, beyond the end of my road.

Not following this reference, but it has been ages since I saw the movies. What incident in particular are you talking about?
*hugs Neo and Trinity*

Date: 2005-09-01 02:09 am (UTC)I was thinking of the very opening of "Revolutions", when Neo is trapped in the Mobil Ave. subway station, per order of the Merovingian. I kinda made the reference a leetle vague on purpose, to make the reader curious...

Date: 2005-09-01 05:10 pm (UTC)The second story just came in out of *nowhere*, when I was sitting down to write the first one, and what's really wierd, is that I knew exactly which words to use. Usually when an idea comes to me, I have to fumble around for the words to express it, to get it down on paper, but that wasn't the case this time.

Date: 2005-09-01 06:40 pm (UTC)Hey, I was wondering if I could ask you a huge, HUGE favor. I just joined 31_days for September, but I realized that I'll be gone for a week in the middle of it...I really don't want to miss those themes, and they're going to be cracking down on people posting late. Ugh. I was wondering - and I know this is a lot to ask - if I could send you all the drabbles (I'll write them beforehand) all formatted and everything, with everything you need to post, along w/ my password so you could throw them up there for me. I'm sure it's not totally kosher under the rules of the comm, but I really, REALLY don't want to miss these themes.
I'll understand if no. But if yes I'll love you forever.
