1. The first character I first fell in love with -- Neo. Besides the fact that he's so darn good-looking and he's the One, he's also a somewhat reluctant messiah-figure. I like that: just goes to show he really is the One.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now -- Believe it or not, the Merovingian. The guy anNOYed me at first but... heh-heh, after about the second viewing of "Reloaded", we'll say that line of thought took a 180-degree turn. Plus I've also started to have a better appreciation for Roland, having played him in an RP; he's not as obnoxious as he seems: he just toes the line, that's all.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't -- The Twins. Too many bad fanfics about them spoiled whatever appreciation I might have had for them. That and I just don't see the appeal in them, but that's just me.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates -- Not necessarily "hates", but people seem to overlook the Keymaker, even though he's really a very important little guy. I like him for that reason.

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer -- Niobe. Since she's going after the Merv in the MxO, because he was implicated in an attempt on Morpheus's life. ::Holds Merv faction flag high and waves it::

6. The character I would shag anytime -- The Merv can slip me the special dessert aaaanytime... though I wouldn't be above a "quickie" with Flood, either.

7. The character I'd want to be like -- Not sure if my MxO character counts, so: Trinity, since she's fearless and strong and she doesn't let anything get in her way, including guys bigger than she is (and she managed to land herself a cute guy...)

8. The character I'd slap -- Three-way tie: Cypher, in the first movie (for betraying Morpheus and killing most of the Neb crew, though I confess, I like his snarkyness); Bane/Smith in the second two (though he'd probably slit my throat for that); the General, in the MxO (another character, possibly either a Machine program or an Exile, who's trying to get the Merv in his gunsights)

9. A pairing that I love -- Neo/Trinity. 'Nuff said.

10. A pairing that I despise -- Hm... Probably Merv/Persephone. Anyone that sexy should stay free to... well you know (that goes for the both of them).

This comment somehow got past me: I don't think I got the email of it, which is why I haven't answered it yet.

1. The first character I first fell in love with -- John Constantine, in either universe. 'Nuff said.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now -- My fondness for Ellie (in the graphic novels or the cut scenes on the DVDs) has increased. She's a cool gal for a demon.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't -- Hm. Hard to say.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates -- Not necessarily "hates", but most people seem to ignore Beeman in the movie-verse: I think he's neat in a nerdy, metaphysical expert sort of way.

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer -- Hah, really hard to say, since I haven't been in the fandom long enough to have this happen to me yet.

6. The character I would shag anytime -- See number one, though I think I'd be more reticent around Comic-verse!Constantine.

7. The character I'd want to be like -- Hm. I'd almost say that I'd like to be Angela Dodson, but she's got that gift of discerning spirits which might be a wee bit much for me widdle brain. Comic-verse... hm... I envy Gemma Masters for her relationship with her slightly wierd uncle.

8. The character I'd slap -- Movie-verse: Gabriel. There ought to be an eleventh commandment addended to the original ten: Thou Shalt Not Be a Snob. Nor Shalt Thou Try to Take Matters of Human Salvation Into Thy Own Hands because of Thy Screwy Ideas of How Human Nature Works. Comic-verse: Probably Tony Masters. I was so glad to see that self-righteous git get shafted in the "Down in the Ground Where the Dead Men Go" story arc.

9. A pairing that I love -- John/Angela in the movie-verse. Not sure in the comic-verse.

10. A pairing that I despise -- I don't get the people who slash John and Chaz in the movie-verse. It kinda spoils the teacher/disciple relationship. And I've seen people trying to slash John and Father Hennessy. No. Just... no.

Canon pairings? Hm... Not sure, for either universe.

1. The first character I first fell in love with -- David, since his story in some ways reminds me of my own. Joe's a very, very, veryveryvery close second, though. ;8^D

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now -- Henry Swinton: he's not a uncaring guy, he's just too close to Mechas to see David as anything more than a new model to be beta-tested.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't -- Hm... hard to say, since I manage to find something likable or at least worthy of understanding in all the characters. I go through spells when I'm not keen on Teddy, but that just has to do with my mental block on teddy bears.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates -- Martin. He may be a brat, but there's a reason to his brattiness: there's a part of him that feels like his mom tried to replace him with David.

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer -- I used to like Dr. Hobby, but the more I thought about his true feelings toward his creation, the less I liked him.

6. The character I would shag anytime -- Gigolo Joe. 'Nuff said! ::Mischievous grin::

7. The character I'd want to be like -- Hah... probably one of the Specialists, since they're so preternaturally calm and graceful and intensely wise... (okay, my first choice was Patricia, but I gave that one a little thought before speaking too soon)

8. The character I'd slap -- Much as I understand his point, I'd love to bean Lord Johnson-Johnson with a beanbag!

9. A pairing that I love -- Canon pairing: David/Joe, I love the father-son chemistry (code strings?) between the two of them.

Fanon pairing: Joe/Monica in the "A.I." RP. So complex and lovely...

10. A pairing that I despise -- Do I dare bring up the idiot who liked the underage pairing of Joe/David...

It's been a while since I sat down to watch the movie, and I might combine movie-universe with graphic novel-universe, but here goes:

1. The first character I first fell in love with -- Major, major toss-up between Mike "the Angel of Death" Sullivan and Harlen "the Reporter" Maguire. Mike, because in personality and looks, he reminds me a lot of my dad (Serious: stick a 1930s suit and a fedora on my dad, and he'd look just like him. He's even *named* Mike!), and Maguire... well, because he's so wierd he's oddly attractive.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now -- Hah... Would probably be Michael jr. I see a lot of myself in him that I didn't see before.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't -- I know a few people who squee'ed over Peter Sullivan, and while I don't hate him, there just wasn't enough screen time of him for me to really get to like him.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates -- My best buddy thought I was wierd because of my fondness for Maguire. Does that count?

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer -- I liked Mr. Rooney, until about one-third the way through the film. I think we know why.

6. The character I would shag anytime -- ::Inserts reference to a PWP self-insert fic she started jotting down, involving Harlen Maguire and the back seat of his Model T Ford...::

7. The character I'd want to be like -- Pulling in someone from the graphic novel-universe: the priest in "On the Road to Perdition: Sanctuary" (the trio of novellas Max Allan Collins scripted after the movie was released on DVD; you read them? They're not quite as good as the original, but they're still a good read). He might hesitate over helping someone of slightly dubious repute, but he's got enough sense to put persons and their greater good over principles.

8. The character I'd slap -- "Crazy" Connor Rooney, but if I did, he'd probably kill me. He's such a brat, albeit a dangerous adult brat.

9. A pairing that I love -- ( ::Gets out the stick to beat off any fanbrats with wierd ideas about this pairing::) I love how the relationship between Mike sr. and Michael jr. deepens through the course of their journey.

10. A pairing that I despise -- Not sure if this counts, since this universe (in either medium) doesn't really lend itself to pairings much, but these two characters irritated me. Back to graphic novel-universe: the two bounty hunters known as "the two Jacks"; the two of them put together just don't equal the wierd panache that Maguire has.

Hurrah for Maguire! :D And melikes your answer to nine... I think if I were to go for anything for it, that'd prolly be it. Not horribly fond of either of 'em, but it is a nice development.

Haven't read the novellas, but I'd like to. Hrm...

Enjoyed reading the answer, heh.
