matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Tolkien_Quote)
[personal profile] matrixrefugee
I had a heck of a time trying to get out of work today: first, the kid who was supposed to be my relief didn't show up, since the Tewksbury schools had today off since the teachers had a seminar or something (That is something completely foreign to me, since I was hometaught: my mom was my teacher.). Then, when I finally got some relief and I was trying to get my bag from the courtesy booth, this strange personage got ahead of me and was bickering with "Edna" the courtesy booth manager about trying to use a coupon on something she'd bought two months ago. I kid you not. Nothing Edna could say would get the coupon weirdo to back down, and I'm standing there waiting patiently... Finally, I just went to the lunchroom to get my trenchcoat, figuring Coupon Weirdo would be gone by the time I got back.

No such luck.

And no sign of the MxO game patch yet: I just checked to see if it was availible for download. We're awaiting the new cinematic with bated breath, particularly since today has some significance in the historical Merovingian dynasty, or it might have been le Prieurie de Sion, but I can't recall exactly what it was (anyone know??). Hence, I might be online later tonight, and then again, I might not show up in AIM till around 12.30 or 1 am. Eastern, like last night (depending on how many missions Sieges decides to run: she was red-hot last night, and I think she might be trying to keep her streak of luck going as long as she can).

Which reminds me to keep an eye open in the library tonight (I have a DVD to return), for a new book on the Prieurie: of course it's little more than a non-fiction paralell to the Damned Book by Dan Brown, but there might be some tidbits of useful information.

Current chatter in my head:

Sieges: "Prieurie de Sion... that would make a great name for Merv faction."

Me: "It's probably been taken."

Flood: "Why on earth would any self-respecting people in my employer's employ choose *that* for a name, and be mistaken for the cave-dwellers?!"

Me: "I take it you never read the damned 'Da Vinci Code', Flood."

Flood: "Of course I have. It's good for a laugh at the expense of the author, whom we all know that he needs a course in writing about the important things like, oh, plot and characterization and dialogue. And that he needs to meet real folk who actually come from Britain." ::In a withering tone that suggests he'd rather have his colon irrigated than read it again::

Me: ::Internal: This from the guy who's a walking British stereotype. Right down to the emotional coolness, the BBC-style accent, and the thing with *tea*.:: "Well, excuuuuse me, Mr. Swotty Exile." ::To Sieges:: "Hey, maybe it could be a group of Zionites who've decided to assist the Exiles."

Flood: "We know that's not going to happen, if the walking red alligator handbag [In-game!Niobe] has anything to say about it."

Sieges: "Yeah, and because most Zionites tend to be the immature people who got unplugged a lit-tle too young."

This is true: the older the player, the more likely they are to side with the Machines or the Merv's people, instead of staying with Zion. Though you get a certain amount of Agent Smith fanbrats in the Machines, though I think they tend to end up just running with Zion, when they find out how cold the Machines are. Just as well: we [as in the Merv's organization] don't need any potential back-stabbers infiltrating the ranks. I think the demographic breaks something like this:

Under 18 -- Zionite hothead/any ol' mission-running. This is the crowd that is more likely to sneer at newbie players and/or spam you with duel requests. I can't tell you how many times I've been running a mission and some Zionite tries to tap me for a duel. Thank God I'm on Recursion, which is largely an RP server, and that I stayed away from Vector, the PvP server: I've heard nothing but bad things about the 133t kiddie players on there, ganking people at hardlines and then yarking at them for objecting to being ganked. Not my idea of fun. If you wanna shoot anything that moves, go to an Exile hideout, or find one of the gangs of hoodlums to rumble with.

20 to 25 -- Machinist/Zionite with a brain. Machinists seem to go either way: they're either good, dedicated players, or really annoying, especially if you're a Merv player, like me. The annoying ones tend to fall into this age bracket.

25+ -- Machinist/Merv. I've noticed that the older the "Matrix" fan-female, the more likely they are to be Merv fans. There's even one Merv faction, "The Sirens", which is comprised entirely of females! I didn't join that group because they tend to wear the skankiest stuff (Sieges, like Ref and I, tends to be a rather conservative dresser. Says Sieges, on meeting up with some Sirens, "It's like they're trying too hard to get the man's attention. Not that he'd get turned off by it, but they make themselves too easy a mark, no?")
