Writing makes wierd like that

Explain to me why I'm able to write a dumb fanfiction for hours on end and come up with a postable chapter at the end of the day, but when I sit down to write out an important letter for a friend, I wind up staring at my pad or the monitor screen for a half an hour before cobbling down something non-committal which I then take another half hour to decide I'd better delete.

Do I know THAT feeling: you know me. You know how I write. You know how I like complicated, overlapping backstories to even the most minor of my characters.
What you haven't seen me do it attempt to write a memo.

"Dear Sir and or Madame To Whom it May Concern Hey, guys! To all:
There have been recent reports It has come to my attention that some people persons unknown have been mucking up the breakroom violating company policy by totally disregarding failing to adhere to basic rules of hygine set guidelines on cleanliness..."

If I get a one-paragraph memo completed and sent within a span of four hours, I consider it an accomplished day.
