matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Rei/Lilith)
I have two fics for tomorrow's [livejournal.com profile] 31_days Amnesty Day, but I thought I would spread out the fun a little...

Title: "I Don't Know When..."
Day/Theme: Sept 10) grow up and blow away
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Character/Pairing:
Rating: PG

Author's Note: Takes place somewhat toward the middle of "Under the Winter Moon", the second part of "Neon Enoch Evangelion", aka the ambitious NGE project, after Gendo has recovered somewhat from the loss of his right hand. Title snagged from a line in Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle" (and given how much the song makes me think of a gentler version of the Ikaris, father and son, I have a funny feeling this isn't the last time I'll nick from it).

matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Ren's wren)
I was awakened this morning by something thumping in the wall next to one of bedroom windows; thinking it was a mouse, I sat up and started beating on the wall with the flat of my hand. Painful to do, but it generate an incredible amount of noise, calculated to scare away pesky mice. No such luck: the mouse when right on bumping around. I pounded harder: the mouse went right on gnawing. Finally the thought occurred to me that the noise was coming from outside, so I got out of bed, went to the window, threw up the sash and lifted the screen to stick my head out of the window...

And what looked like a hairy woodpecker flew away. It seems he was pecking at the post at the corner of the house, the little beggar. I hope this doesn't mean we have termites or something.

Also, one of my recent spate of book orders came today; I've been poking around on Amazon for more volumes of the manga version of Neon Genesis Evangelion (the twin to the anime, not the Episode 26-'verse silliness that is Angelic Days; not sure if I'll be getting into that, unless Yoshiyuki Sadamoto really drags his heels on the last chapters and makes us wait even longer and I start to go into withdrawal...), but I also got something I probably should have dug up sooner...

That would be Andrew Collins's "From the Ashes of Angels", a look at the Grigori and how they might have influenced early Middle Eastern civilization and possibly beyond. He doesn't appear to go anywhere near a possible Grigori link among the Navajo, a theory I've been tinkering with: according to Navajo legend, they learned the designs which appear on their rugs and pottery as well as better farming techniques from entities known as "the Sky People". But he does toy with the notion that the UFO abductions of today might be cases of the Grigori manifesting. This book was one of the major influences on Storm Constantine's Grigori trilogy, and I felt it was vital that I get my hands on this book. Especially since it's one of the roots of my current work in progress, as well as something that has caught my interest.

One line in particular made me smirk: he refers to the Grigori as a sort of "celestial Mafia", which of course made me think immediately of Enniel Prussot, the slick, decadent fellow who's holding more cards in the Neon Enoch Evangelion-'verse than anyone suspect...
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (NGE Angelic Script)
Finally made an NGE-themed icon based on the "Angelic Script"/fragment of the Secret Dead Sea Scrolls which appears in the opening credits. This was yet another inspiration for Neon Enoch Evangelion: the letters on that parchment look suspiciously like something between Enochian script and kanji (and yes, there is a connection between the Scrolls and Sabia Valiant in one of her previous identities).

And when I was poking around on YouTube to see if anyone had vidded songs from Nox Arcana/Michelle Belanger's "Blood of Angels", I found this AMV, using clips from "Yami no Matsuei" (one of my guilty pleasure anime favorites). Editing is a little spotty (someone forgot to shut off the subtitles), but I loves it:

matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code ("Enniel Prussot")
Today, Sept. 29th is the Catholic feast of the Holy Angels, plus it's also a Tuesday, which is traditionally the day of the angels... and I got my book on the Grigori or Watcher Angels in the mail! Just a coincidence? I don't think so...

Also: Another GIP, this time featuring my "Enniel Prussot" icon (Yes, yes, it's Muraki from 'Yami no Matsuei', but since the image fits I'm running with it).

Also there's a bit of an argument brewing over on the Eva Geeks forum, when someone decided to start tossing around some ideas on whether or not an Angel in human form could impregnate a human. One person got irritated about how an idea like this strays from canon (Like some of the weird things that have been posted in the section for fanfiction and fanart don't?!). Of course I stuck up for discussing this very topic (hey, it's one of the cornerstones of the third part of my current project), as well as being a bit suspect of the term "canon": the more I think about it, the less I like it, since it smacks of treating the fandom (or maybe the mythos is a better word for it) like a religious dogma or a sacred text that has to be rigidly adhered to and any other slant on it is heretical. I paraphrased a few lines from Shinji's inner journey in Episode 20:

"There is the Evangelion that exists in Hideaki Anno's mind, the Evangelion that exists in the producers' minds, the Evangelion that exists in the Eva Geeks' minds and the Evangelion that exists in your mind. Yet somehow, all these are the same Evangelion."
