Loose parakeet 3; humans 0
May. 22nd, 2006 12:56 pmWell... Yesterday, I nipped out to see if I could catch the loose parakeet. I spotted him on our neighbor's bird feeder, but he fluttered away. He flies well, so he's a healthy little fellow.
Then when my dad came home from work, we both went out to see if we could catch him: we didn't see the little widget on the bird feeder, but my dad decided to nip across the street to the old cemetary on the corner. And lo and behold, I spotted the birdie on the ground, poking around in the grass. My dad tried popping my shirt over him (I was wearing an open canvas shirt over a sleeveless tee-shirt), but the little fellow was juuuust too quick for him. He flew up into a tree, just out of reach; my dad tried to get him to perch on a long stick he held up to the branch, but that seemed to annoy the birdie and he flew way up into a big pine tree.
I was out there just now, trying to see if I could spot the parakeet, whom we're now calling "Pip", whether we catch him or not. He was on the bird feeder, but he flew off toward the brook when he saw me getting close. Give it time...
