The Great Cockatiel Escape
Jul. 16th, 2006 02:28 pmThis happened Friday afternoon, when I was cleaning Oskar the cockatiel's cage... My mom had recently moved Merry the parakeet's cage and its stand over to the dining room window where Oz's cage usually is, and put Oz -- cage and all -- in the corner where Merry's cage used to be. Well, when I was cleaning Oz's cage, I forgot to slip in the grate that goes where the catch-drawer on the bottom goes... I suddenly heard fluttering wings, and looked up to find Oz circling the ceiling, trying to find a place to land. He headed over to the window, looking for his cage, and landed instead on Merry's cage, to his utter chagrin. Merry naturally hopped up onto the side of the cage, trying to get to the underside of the roof, so he could nibble on Oz's claws: he *LOVES* Oz, who can't stand Merry. Oz fluttered off Merry's cage, fleeing for another perch. He tried landing my mom's head, but ended up on her shoulder because she ducked out of his way. I went to grab him off, and he fluttered away, ending up behind a laundry basket, where he let me scoop him up.
Also... just had a wierd soulbonding moment: I had to call for my schedule this week, and when I opened the phonebook to look up the number, it opened to the Fs in the White Pages: I found myself looking right at an entry for "Flood, Alan", who's somewhere in the same town where I live. That was too close to the name of one of my headspace tenants for comfort. Then, when I was on the phone, I got put on hold and had to listen to the canned music for a couple minutes. "Desert Rose" by Sting came on, and wouldn't you know but that song happens to be a favorite of the Snarky Fellow's older brother. And he decided to sing along with it, so I had to mentally poke him to soft-pedal it.
