Two deaths in the family
Nov. 15th, 2006 09:31 pm... which oddly enough is the working title for my SPN/MxO crossover fic. Cosmic irony much?
My dad's cousin Liz called yesterday -- the 24th anniversary of my grandfather's death (my dad's dad) -- to tell us that his aunt Mary and his cousin Mary had both passed away this week. The wake is tomorrow afternoon/evening, and I'll be taking some time off from the MxO to be with my family (I've had a great show of support from the folks in my faction; WGAnubis, probably my best friend of the lot, tapped me this morning to offer his condolences and to tell me I was in his prayers). My worst regret is that we didn't spend more time with either of them, but Aunt Mary was kinda ...eccentric: my dad told a story about her visiting his house when he was a kid and how she decided to inspect the bedrooms. So she wondered why my dad's bed was up so high and she lifted up the mattress to find out: to discover the box spring was up on orange crates!
And as if to cheer me up a little, while giving me a momentary whatheyell moment: I switched on the Oldies station to find they'd switched over to "Christmas favorites and holiday classics".
