LJ pruning
Jul. 15th, 2007 02:15 pmMy friends list, that is.
Don't worry: none of you folks who've friended me back or friended me first are getting pruned. I'm just removing communities that I don't post in any more, or ones that have become glaringly defunct. Also
interdictor had to go; his Michael Moore-esque diatribes about the way the government handled the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and his fact cherry-picking was more than I could take any more. I don't doubt there was some mismanagement and failure of communication, but when you consider how enormous the disaster was/is, I doubt that human capabilities could have handled it to everyone's satisfaction. Not unless we got every single person on this planet to help out with the relief effort, but you have to consider that not everyone has the time or resources to do that. What about Bushmen in central Africa who can't afford a pair of shorts let alone a plane ticket, or people in comas, or severely autistic people who are locked in their own heads?
I too wish it had been handled better, for everyone's sake, least of all for the sake of the survivors, but we have to live in reality. And the reality is: nothing is perfect. People are not perfect. FEMA is not perfect. The US government is not perfect. Also, I wish people of
interdictor's ilk could get it through their heads that the government cannot do everything. They can't fix everyone's problems. And to be honest, if we *did* have a government that fixed everyone's problems, people would start screaming about the government being tyrannical and interfering with their lives.
Man, how did that get into a rant? Must have been the mention of Michael Moore, whose very name makes me want to bite something.
