matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Tolkien_Quote)

Mind you, I like taking the bus to Lowell and elswhere, but there are times when the people I'm obliged to share transportation with can really make me wish my nerves would let me drive. Since there's a mental health facility/rehab clinic in town, I often wind up riding with some pretty odd folks, like the mentally challenged guy who'd sing Creedence Clearwater Revival songs very, very softly. Others are not so pleasant, like the woman who'd bug people to hook her up with a dealer (I think she ended up getting busted for it). Then there's the ones that fall somewhere in between.

I was riding the bus the other day, when a woman got on, carrying with her a large cardboard coffee cup. At one point, she set it down on the seat next to her. Unfortunately, at that moment, the bus had to stop rather quickly at a traffic signal. The cup went flying, and the water in it splattered all over the seat, all over the aisle, and onto my feet. Or at least, I thought it was water. I suddenly realised that my feet now smelled of grain alcohol, possibly vodka. Thank God I was wearing sandals, or it could have been a much more unpleasant scenario. The woman apologized effusively, and the bus-driver asked what it was. The woman replied a little too quickly, "Oh, just water."

Said I to the bus-driver after the woman got off: "That was the highest-alcohol-contet water I ever smelled." Said he, "I believe you."

Lol...reminds me of one of my fellow rehab-ers back in the day: mind you, this wasn't some Promises-esque facility ('Promises'- what a horrible name for a rehab facility! "I PROMISE I'll stop, REALLY!") where people come and go as they please, so I was actually a little impressed with her resilience. This was when flavoured bottled water was just starting, so she'd have her boyfriend sneak lemon-flavoured gin into water bottles when he came to visit. I don't know how long she got away with it, or HOW, frankly, but she managed.
Great, now Cal's trying to get me to get her phone number ("What? We got so much in common, we could have a grand time!")

:: Laughs:: Hal's response to the incident was something like, "Okay, high marks in concealment, but low marks in maintaining that concealment. And I mean looooooow marks."

Cal: "Old ladies are the true masters of hidin' it. My Gran used t'carry around a little bottle of gin and say it were holy water, which, I guess, it were in some respects. I'm more inclined t'say 'feck it', and if I do any concealin' it'll be in the paper bag the bottle came in!"

LJ can be just plain dithery sometimes, so it might not have been you at all: it took me three tries to get that RP voice post I did, and I know I was typing in my access codes right. Very strange.

I gotta admit: for all the wierd things I've had to put up with, I wouldn't give up public transportation for having my own car/being able to drive. It can be so amusing sometimes, I catch myself wondering how people who drive can stand driving alone.
