Apocalypse Country
Oct. 23rd, 2007 10:57 pmI'm listening to the news about the fires in southern California and if I was praying before, I'm praying now... Just heard there's been 2,000 buildings destroyed, including some multi-million dollar homes belonging to some celebrities. Funny how disasters tend to be the great equalisers... I remember hearing about some blues pianist and his family losing their home in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
On a related note, and another albeit tiny and insignificant intention for which I'm praying: the wildfires have delayed the start of the Hallowe'en hijinks on the Matrix Online, since some of the crew working for Sony Online Entertainment were ordered to stay home. This was a little saddening to hear, but the lives and families of the game developers and the techs are a lot more important than game updates.

I'm in the middle of the whole thing, but thankfully nowhere near any of the fires. The Irvine fire in Orange County is the closest to me, but that's about 30% contained. I'm really worried about the San Diego fire. Last I heard it was 0% contained and 230,000 people had to evacuate.
