matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Dresden Files)

Just got in from buying the new short-story collection featuring a shiny new Dresden Files story -- and I skipped work to get said book which has been elusive, despite many claims that it was already out in other parts of the States. Once I get some tea and some dry socks, I'll be posting about Christmas Day hijinks.

Merry (belated) Christmas! Did you get the e-card?
Eugh, this Bhutto business has thrown an enormous kink into my holiday-making– I WAS planning on going to Pakistan at New Years to see the family, but that sure isn't happening now...

I think my email has been a bit wonky lately: stuff hasn't seem to be coming through, but I'll check again.

And owch, sorry to hear about your holiday plans getting spoiled on account of the troubles in Pakistan. I'm rather annoyed with the local news stations for not devoting much airtime to this tragedy and choosing instead to keep babbling about the wretched local football team.

I just bought the first Dresden book with Christmas money. Still waiting for it, though.

The first one is, I'll admit, the weakest of the series in terms of quality of writing, but that's to be expected since it was Jim Butcher's very first book; it's still an extremely good read though. I actually started reading the series with the eighth book, "Proven Guilty", which I think is the best of the series so far, though "White Night", "Summer Knight" and "Blood Rites" are very strong contenders for best in series.

Well, best to start with the weakest and work my way up!

I'm a stickler for beginning with first books of a series, if possible. I like chronological order more than the concept of prequels.
