GAFF on MR's LJ: "Dresden Files" pre-slash Thomas/Harry -- WTF...?

Edited for numerous technical glitches. Since GAFF has lost it's sparkle and I don't dare bring this to fanficrants, I'm going to be posting anything GAFF-like here in my personal LJ.

I always knew the end of "White Night" was a colossal "you're asking for badfic!" moment, and when I saw this one pop up, I caught myself wincing at the entry. The title of it is "A Matter of Style", and I think it's a matter of opinion as to whether or not it's really that bad.

Mind you, the writing is very good: no grammar or spelling glitches and the characterization and tone are pretty good... But I've seen no canonic evidence for Thomas swinging both ways -- if I remember correctly, there was a bit in "Dead Beat" with Thomas being a bit embarassed that a male co-worker had come on to him -- and especially not Harry, who just about defines "red-blooded straight male". Plus, I doubt he'd let any White Court vampire -- much less his own half-brother -- try to nosh on his life-force. I mean, he has to guard himself around Lara, but he thwapped off Inari when she tried to make her first feeding off him. He might go along with Thomas's little masquerade that he's "Toe-mass"'s more than friend, but that's just it: it's a masque. I have a feeling that, brother or not, if Thomas -- or any male Wampire; hell, if any Wampire, period -- tried anything funny with him, Harry would be reaching for the blasting rod in a trice.

And we all know that incest fic of any sort, in any fandom, is a deal-breaker for me because of family horrors I don't want to discuss at the moment. Thus, it prompted the following exchange in Xfire with the fellow who got me onto TDF:

*pats Ref on the back* There, there. Unfortunatly fanbrats are predictable animals and some things are just irresistable for them. The fact that people taking one look at Thomas and getting the wrong end of the stick is something of a running joke probably didn't help matters. I wouldn't be suprised if there were a few of them that failed to realise that it was meant to be a joke.

Don't get me wrong, the writing on this fic is quite good for what it is. It's the premise that just doesn't the Dresden-verse very well, and I've been sitting here thinking, "Hello, Thomas-fanit? Did *you* read the part in "White Night" where Harry is quietly working overtime to keep his nerve as Lara subtly puts the come-hither on him and Carlos when they first confront her in the driveway of Chateau Raith?!" :: Hugs you with one arm in gratitude::
