matrixrefugee Or a better title could be "I love lamp". My dad has been picking up some odds and ends from the waaaay after-Christmas clearance sale at the Winchester garden center branch of the grower he works for, and one of his finds included a pair of floor lamps. He gave me one for my room, so it has now found a permanent home next to my bed, perfect for late-night reading when it's too cold to creep out from under my covers to shut off the desk lamp on the bureau at the far end of the room.
Other finds: a three-foot tall St. Francis garden statue to replace the one we've had in our yard for over thirty years, since it's gotten beyond "charmingly distressed" and into "ratty decripitude". He even brought it with us in the back of our station wagon when we went to Mass today, to have Father Charles Higgins, the wonderful young pastor at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes, bless it for us.
And for more Hallowe'en in January hijinks, Dad also got us a "haunted windchime", which looks like five little skeletons hung up as if they were a windchime. But if you walk near it, they suddenly start jumping around, emitting this odd clattering noise and yelling "Ow! *OW!* Ow! Hey, watch it! OW! Get outta my way!", which causes no end of hilarity from me. It's now hung up from the archway in our living room, not far from our Angel post-Christmas tree, so it looks almost like something out of "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
