"School Warns Parents Dead Daughter Can't Go to Prom"

The parents of a British teen, who died suddenly two months ago, received a disturbing letter from the girl's high school saying she needs to improve her attendance or can't go to the prom, the Manchester Evening News reported.

Now, I could hardly help feeling sad for the poor girl's mother, getting this painful reminder of the loss of her daughter... But proof of how strange my mind is, on first reading that headline, I got the mental image of a zombie/revenant in a prom dress, shambling into the high school gym on prom night. I'll have to find a way to work that into my next Beanie Shay short story (No, I haven't completely set aside the sharp-tongued grocery store bagger with a head full of preternatural knowledge and her half-werewolf boyfriend/best buddy)

Now from a purely legal perspective--that is odd.You'd think the school would've received some kind of notification!

That said--I would love to see a character like that in your next story ;). Maybe some girl who used to be told growing up, that "your whole life seems to be leading up to that prom".

Turns out there was a software glitch in the computer system that caused the letter to be drafted and sent out by accident.

But on a lighter note, I'm very much looking forward to the "zombie at the prom" story, since I had a counsellor ask me the air-headed "but what about the prom?" question, re: being homeschooled.
