...I am *contra*-Twilight.

I am really getting royally ticked-off with the sheer amount of antis who call Esme Cullen a loser just because she chose to be a stay-at-home mom. Not every woman can balance a job/career and taking care of kids. Case in point, my mother, who is emotionally high-needs because of her depression and PTSD, and whom Providence decided to give the responsibility of an equally emotionally high-needs kid with an autism spectrum condition. Add to this, Stephanie Meyers is Mormon, and they have a more traditional/conservative view of gender-specific roles in the family; doesn't make them bad people, just makes them different from the current cultural norm.

And I've frankly had it with the ones who level the pedophilia accusation against Edward. Just me saying it, but it denigrates the victims of actual cases of pedophilia, ie. kids who have been sexually used and/or abused by adults they trusted. Edward might have almost a hundred years of experience, but I get the feeling that his turning freeze-framed his emotional development along with his physical development. It's kind of like Ivy the Archive in the Dresden Files: she might have the entire knowledge of humanity combined into her pretty head, but she's still a kid who does kid-like things such as writing in crayon or cuddling Harry's cat Mister or watching the otters play at the aquarium.

Well, I'll let the comments (my comments specifically and the replies therof) to this entry in the LJ of Michelle Belanger, a very talented Gothic singer/writer/composer and psychic vampire, speak for some of my feelings: http://sethanikeem.livejournal.com/240159.html

I never really got why people make an issue of that side of things. I mean, there's so much else about Twilight that you could have a go at. The relationship is creepy for many, many reasons, but to my mind the age thing isn't one of them. For one thing, when it comes to Mayfly/December relationships the normal rules don't really apply.

1. Michelle Belanger has a LJ?

2. ... and you read it?

I'm continuing to struggle through "Twilight", and while I'm still not a fan of it, some of the antis are just really getting on my nerves.

And re: Michelle Belanger: I stumbled on her LJ by accident, and it's a very fascinating read. I'm trying to get her "Psychic Vampire Codex" (since after hearing an interview with her over on ghostvillage.com, I'm starting to wonder if I might be a mild psychic vampire myself), and I've downloaded some of the songs she did with Nox Arcana for their "Blood of Angels" album.

-amused look- Actually... I've been researching psychic vampires for some time now...

You want me to add you to that custom group, and give you a couple of links?

Mmm. One of the people I've had the pleasure of knowing for years is someone by the name of Master E, and I think he's always addressed the idea of Human Living Vampires very well. You'll find in that wall of text somewhere near the bottom, "Am I A Vampire?"

For some of my back posts, try looking here.

I'll note ahead of time: there's different sects amongst those who consider themselves vampires. You find disputes between people on what consists and what doesn't consist of a vampire. Personally, I've been trying to find a more scientific approach; others choose spiritual, others consider it more of a amorphous, vague idea without clear set boundaries - the sort of stuff that seems consistent with liberal neopagans.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up. Christians, wiccans, and even vampires - people generally tend to fight with each other on the "right" idea, no matter where you go.

And of course, there's a lot of young folks in there, trying to find their identity, but you find that anywhere there's a type of culture.

"Not every woman can balance a job/career and taking care of kids."

And not every woman *wants* to!
