Unexpected long weekend

Out of the blue, I got today off, so I spent the day working on putting more books back on the bookcases (my dad replaced the dothery plug and bolted the bookcases together to make them less likely to tip over; I've got about 90 percent of the books put away and I discovered that I have more shelf space than books for the first time in many years!) and going for a walk, as well as just letting myself have some much-needed downtime. I've also been browsing various sites, learning what I can about Japanese daily life and culture: anyone who says fanfiction writing is a waste of time and talent should see the copious amount of research that goes into it: it's definitely a learning experience!

Mmm! I learned a whole lot of interesting stuff about Japanese honorifics (which also inspired an intentionally funny scene with a language expert falling over herself when she's sputtering for the right one on the very first day of her new job, to the polite amusement of her new employer: "I'm fluent in seven languages including one technically *dead* one, you'd think I'd know how to address you properly.")
