matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Tatsumi)

One of the many reasons I have been quiet lately -- besides the fact that work has eaten my time -- is that I've been brooding a bit over the trouble in Japan. The enormity of this disaster is staggering, but it has a personal side to it. My mom has a pen friend in Sendai, and we're wondering if she's all right. We've been making use of Google's People Finder, but so far the results are a little unsettled. We looked up Akiko, and she was listed as "unspecified", which could mean anything. I've been checking back every day, but it hasn't changed. However, last night, mom dug around in her letters, looking for more information on Akiko's family: she has a brother, Tomoaki, who shares her home, and so I tried looking for him. He's listed as "searching for information", which l suspect means that someone is looking for him, possibly Akiko, who might be lying low as she tries to pull her life back together.

This has put a bit of a dent in my mood, unfortunately. Add to this are the (usually) religious snobs who look down their self righteous noses and say that Japan is "getting what was coming to it because of Pearl Harbor". That war was sixty years ago. If -- operating word being "if" -- there was any "punishment" for what happened during that war, they may already have gotten it with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, not that those should have happened, either, given the horrible collateral damage. Forgiveness much? Most of the victims of the recent tragedies are likely not even of that generation, much less responsible for what happened during the war. And the ones responsible are in their eighties and nineties, if they haven't passed away already. Kicking someone when they're down much?! I hope the karmic balance tips against these smug Pharisees and that some tragedy happens to them, as punishment for their lack of charity.

Rest assured, this good Samaritan is doing her best to tip the balance in the favor of the people of Japan...

(((((hugs))))))

I'm praying for your friend, and for all the people of Japan.

As for those that think Japan is "getting what's coming to them"..that's disgusting. Truly disgusting. No single country on this Earth is lily white with purity; they've all done things that were wrong in the name of war. They should remember that in the Bible, it says, "The rain falls on the just and the unjust"; when things like this happen, they happen to good and bad people. It has nothing to do with what people have or haven't done, it's just one of those horrible things.

Japan is a wake up call, I think, to start treating each other and the earth more humanely.

Some people are just stupid. Japan getting what it deserves? Please! That's just so idiotic. But onto other things, good to see you back. Livejournal was getting quiet without you and Youlooksofine. You both keep me on my toes with my work.
