matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Yami no Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness)

Written on request for [livejournal.com profile] noizchild and tying into her "Ghost Doll" series, featuring mild Tsuzuki/OFC and Muraki/Tsuzuki

Muraki detested "sharing" things he felt were his. Partly it came from the territorial nature which all fully awakened energy vampires had, partly it came from the bad case of separation anxiety he had developed at an early age.

His sense of territory extended to Tsuzuki.

One afternoon, while he was on a lunch break at a cafe, he spotted the object of his desires seated at another table with a girl whom he did not recognize, possibly of American extraction by her accent. Clearly she and Tsuzuki were "an item", as the saying goes. The very sight of her, laughing and holding hands with Tsuzuki filled him with jealousy. Not since his half-brother Saki had gotten between him and a girl he had been fond of, had Muraki felt this jealous. Back then, he had been powerless to stop his beloved from being torn from him, but now he had the means of preventing any further intrusions.

It was a matter of time and patience, of planning and tapping the threads of his intelligence network. But he would need to use care: it was one thing to want to eliminate a poacher, it was another thing entirely to pull it off without alienating Tsuzuki or causing the shinigami to grow suspicious. Best to make it look like a random tragedy, even stepping in to eliminate the perpetrator (read: accomplice) and make himself look like a hero before offering Tsuzuki a shoulder to cry on or a consoling pair of arms to fall into.

It was a perfect plan in theory, the problem was executing it seamlessly. He was a patient man, but he couldn't let this go on any longer, lest he lose Tsuzuki even more thoroughly.

Glad you liked it! I tossed it off during a break at work, and I'm quite proud of it.
