There's an upside to LJ being scothery: it keeps the anonymous comment spammers away. Just got this in my inbox:

"backlink services"

Unquestionably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the net the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people think about worries that they plainly don't know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

The kicker?? This was posted to a YnM fanfic I'd crossposted to a fan community. I'm scratching my head as to what the hell it has to do with YnM.

I've been getting a LOT of weird spam lately (and I may have to activate the thing that would require people to respond to a CAPTCHA widget before posting a comment: sorry, people, I didn't disable non-friend commenting because I cross-post fics to various comms). Most of it has been the usual Trying To Sell Stuff postings, but then I get these two in response to some Yami no Matsuei fics I'd posted on [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic. It appears to be someone attempting to RP with me, but they appear to have been high or drunk, given the word salad quality. I've gotten some irritating comments from yaoi fangurlz who whined about pairings or my fade-to-blacks, but these are ridiculous. Here are the comments in their entirety, including subject lines:

New comment "Re: Yami no Matsuei, Muraki/Tsuzuki" on an entry in [info]comment_fic.
kanoto I love you tsuzuki you now putict you baby dont for get that talking to you and I wont let you for get bout me.

New comment "muraki " on an entry in [info]comment_fic.
want me its me karoto tsuzuki big brother to lil baby tsuzuki.

Also, went to the Salem, NH B&N: picked up a few new journals (I seem to go through about one every four to six months, depending on how much writing I'm doing: I've just about used up the one I was using to draft [livejournal.com profile] carpe_ho_ras posts/jot down ideas for future posts/etc, and one journal I was using for miscellaneous fanfics, mostly [livejournal.com profile] story_lottery and [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic), Vol. 4 of "Black Butler", and after Much Rummaging Around, Max Brooks's "World War Z". Also got some cafe writing in: I got most of my next [livejournal.com profile] love_bingo fic done, this one being an Inception fic written from shade!Mal's POV, if she were tailing Cobb and Ariadne somewhat obsessively during one of Ariadne's training sessions (and there's a teeny part of me that suspects Cobb may have been literally haunted by Mal: hauntings often happen when a person's spirit is unwilling or unable to let go of a place where they lived during life, and I suspect that could have happened to Mrs. Cobb after her death...). No, this is not a Cobb/Ariadne fic: I don't see anything more than a mentor/student relationship between them

Watched the director's cut version of "Dark City" on DVD last night (very nice disk: it's got it's own all new sets of behind the scenes material, thus it isn't a copy paste of the original disk), and I must say, I like this version a lot better than the original. They removed the irritating opening expository voice-over, which the studio execs made Alex Proyas add. And they also removed the over-dub on Jennifer Connelly singing. Plus some scenes are a little longer and more interesting now.

But... I noticed that this weird little phenomena that I call the Gormenghast Continuum has struck. It seems that a certain book by Mervyn Peake has this weird ability to trigger inter-textual links with everything that it comes in contact with:

Mr. Book, the semi-Alpha among the Strangers, is played by Ian Richardson, who also played Earl Sepulchrave in the BBC miniseries of the bricks. That alone is creepy, when you take Mr. Book's name into consideration of Sepulchrave's pet obsession.... There's more...

According to Alex Proyas in one of the behind the scenes documentaries, the release date of "Dark City" got pushed up because of "a little movie called Titanic". Now... Leonardo Di Caprio famously starred in "Titanic", and also played the lead in "Inception"; also, Christopher Nolan has pointed to "Dark City" as one of the forebears and inspirations for "Inception" (both share bendy urban landscapes as well as "what is real?" notions).

Just been poking around on IMDB.com's page on the BBC miniseries version of "the bricks" (turns out there was an Australian miniseries in the 1980s, but it didn't do well and has been lost: from everything I've run across, it doesn't appear there are any copies of the tapes of it anywhere, though some soul with a BetaMax might have recorded it, for all we know...), because for chuckles, I wanted to know what was the date of the US airing of it (on PBS, starting with WGBH, here in the Boston, MA. area).

The UK. airing date was January 17, 2000, which means we're coming up on the tenth anniversary of it (I may re-view it then and do a bit more of the infamous headspace commentary of it). And the US airing date was.....

June 10th, 2000, yours truly's birthday. I can't help smiling at this, for some reason, and it's like finding out I got a birthday present without knowing about it.

Finished my work week today, now I get to relax and curl up with a good book or some RP taggage. My Christmas shopping is done, all I have to do now is wrap the packages and decorate our Christmas tree: we'll be putting the lights on it tonight, then I'll decorate it throughout the day tomorrow. I've also told myself, I am changing into my Christmas PJs (this lovely set of snowflake print silver-on-grey flannels that I found at Target: they look almost like something a certain albino energy vampire might wear) and not getting dressed till Christmas morning. And if I do get dressed, I may not go out except for a walk down the street to look at people's Christmas lights.

Speaking of which: my dad has reported seeing the most outrageous blinky lights display imaginable, when he took a detour to visit his friend "Hal" (not his real name) on the way home from work the other night. It apparently has every kind of blinking light imaginable, up to and including a red and a green spotlight blinking at a wreath on the side of the house, and said wreath has -- yep! -- blinking lights on it. Says Dad, "They musta done that on purpose to piss off the neighbors." Says me, "Seizure inducing levels of blinkage?" Says Dad, "Almost. Oh my gawd, you gotta see it t'believe it."

More crazy: We've been getting dustings of snow every day this week. The resident snow-haters at work have been calling it "rain". Funny-looking rain, if you ask me. Never seen white rain that stuck to the ground before.

One of the first things I started to snark at, at the tender age of twelve, were the people (usually of some kind of fundamentalist Christian bend) who would brand :: Insert fantastical critter/fantasy pop icon/fantasy media of choice:: as being "from the Devil", or in leet-speak "OMG TEH DEVOL!11111" It's been applied to Dungeons & Dragons, unicorns, Rainbow-Brite, the Smurfs, the Lord of the Rings, the Dark Crystal, even the Chronicles of Narnia (I kid you not, even though Jack Lewis himself has stated that Aslan = Jesus).

Now, per Snopes.com's latest update, they're aiming their sights on Hello Kitty. Now mind you, I'm the type who finds the Hello Kitty Hell website immensely funny, both for the author's wacky hyperbole and the sheer amount of bizarre Hello Kitty junk he digs up. I used to despise the little furball, but I've since gotten over that, and I love her to pieces. I credit my mom for this influence. I totally get the people who despise the wee kitty, but honestly... the devil? Puh-leeezee... Offering bogus "proof" doesn't help their case, either (ie. the word "kitty" supposedly meaning "demon" in Chinese, even though HK was created in Japan. Wrong country, and their knowledge of Chinese is worse than mine... the extent of which is -- yep -- cussing in Chinese [Thank you, Joss Whedon].)

I swear, you don't need to go to a comedy club to get a good laugh, you just have to observer human behavior long enough to find some real gut-busters.

First Jonathan Sharkey being up to his old tricks again, still. Now this:

http://community.livejournal.com/psivampires/11922.html?view=35474#t35474

It was all I could do to keep from posting: "Okay, galpal, put down the Twilight books and/or the Dresden Files books and back away from them. Overdosing on vampire media of choice and then flipping through "The Psychic Vampire Codex" once does not an energy phage make. It's not a matter of believing that you're a phage, it's a matter of *knowing* that you are. Awakening, from what I can tell, is a gradual process and while it happens differently for different people, I think the safest bet is to let an Awakening happen on its own. Otherwise, it reflects badly on the rest of us, and it perpetrates the myth that all phages are out to recruit kids into their numbers (gee, what other demographic have I heard that canard leveled against?)."

Clicks, pets and pats for all, and please give some boy-vibes to the stone hatchling.

Just for fun, I decided to check out some of my dragons' recent eggs, which I've sadly had to send to the abandoned page... and come to find, one of my winter dragons, Kozo Fuyutsuki's spring offspring has been named... LaurellKHamilton. *Facepalm* indeed. There's lots of things you can name a spring dragon, but the name of an urban fantasy writer whose work has devolved into badly-written preternatural pr0|\| is not one of that, but that's just me saying it.
