matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Merv_Crest)
From a clip, on YouTube, of the "rotating hallway" segment:

Neo + James Bond = Arthur

Also, had my first dream inspired by "Inception" on Friday night: don't remember the details, but it seemed to tie into the inception which may eventually be performed on a certain pale energy vampire in a certain RPG.

Also, a very strange thing has been going on. I haven't been having as many vivid or lucid dreams as I usually do, not for some months now, but after having that dream, I've been having vivid and/or lucid dreams every single night. It's refreshing, and crazy...and just plain weird that this is happening this way. I have to admit, of the recent additions to headspace, Cobb was the quickest to take to the situation -- likely due to his experience as a dream-sharer -- although he's one of the quietest in headspace. However, quiet in this case does not mean "not present", he just doesn't say much, unless prodded or provoked other headspace dwellers. Usually the latter. He seems to respect the shared brainspace more than the rest of them, likely due to experience; he might be a mind thief, but he knows better than to cross certain lines. He's like the houseguest who cleans up after themself quickly and efficiently and doesn't cause trouble. Wish I could say the same for the rest... :: Glares at them::

Shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] tomboy_typist

Give me one of my RP characters and one of yours, and I will tell you-- no matter how ridiculous the pairing-- the following about their first child (if they are canonically a couple with children, I will make up a non-canon child.) Same sex couples are okay too, I'll figure out something. If you don't have any puppets of your own, feel free to just pick a fictional character that you think I might know and ask away! ^^
A. Name
B. Zodiac Sign and/or Hogwarts House
C. Circumstances of Conception
D. PB/Appearance
E. Three Random Facts
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Come Away O Human Child)
No, no, this isn't going to be wanking about other players: that's what [livejournal.com profile] bad_rpers_suck is for, and frankly I've gotten away from there since there was too much wank about how blah should be done in blah-verse; some of it was warranted, but much of it bordered on Keeper of the Canon behavior (including mine...). It's more on the lines of being disappointed that things I've tossed out there have not hit the mark I was aiming for.

Case in point bringing Titus Groan, aka the Emo Earl to [livejournal.com profile] romancedressing in a bid to let him keep wandering a bit (he dun like being cooped up at The Mansion all the time, much as he likes it). However, the threads he's in seem to die easily, or people just don't respond at all. I keep wondering if it's just because his canon is relatively obscure. Which makes me suffer bouts of jealousy when I see Popular Big Name Canon Characters getting scads of canonmates/people who are just interested in playing with them. Not that I want scads of threads, I just want to feel like there's a nice handful of people outside the circle that I play with who are interested in this character.

Especially since I want to do a little Steerpike/Titus slashage (no doubt due to the really good SP/Titus fics I've run across lately), but that's not likely to happen within my circle, since we're playing up the not!brothers aspect in the BBC miniseries, which I don't doubt was an undeveloped idea that is lurking in Mervyn Peake's notebooks for the Bricks. And incest is a squick/trigger for me due to Personal Issues I don't want to discuss (unless it's festishy siblings in spirit sort of stuff, that's just fine, but if actual shared genetics are involved, I don't go there).

Also considering -- haven't decided yet -- dropping one of my mains. He's not happy with what I have planned, and he's balking at it, while being very loud on the other hand. It's as if he wants me to drop him, and I'm reluctant to do so, since that would satisfy him too much on so many levels. I want to keep him and keep tormenting him, but he's starting to turn around and fight me. Eurgh. I hate having imaginary people causing drama.

Though I've had some delighted moments on [livejournal.com profile] dear_mun: Spotted a few "Black Swan" RPers, including one or two Ninas and then there was deliciously surreal BlackSwan!Nina. Since I'm writing him now, I'm tempted to pick up Thomas, but he's a bit of a bastard toward women.

Had to go to Wal-Mart to buy myself a new pair of pants for work, as one pair got a hole worn through the front of one leg. Now, I'm not much of a fan of clothes-shopping to begin with, thus my frustration got doubled when all I could find was sweatpants, leggings, more sweatpants, jeans, *more* sweatpants, velour leggings and even more sweatpants. I guess they were stocked up for the people who decided to hit the gym in the new year. Fortunately, after much molar-grinding and hunting, I found a pair of canvas pants that should do nicely.

Currently re-reading "Northanger Abbey", preparatory to intro'ing Catherine Morland at a certain Mansion. She's excited about the idea, though she's reticent to admit it. Also trying to readjust Muraki to being on request only status: he's not happy about it and he's starting to get restless already (even though he has 15 active threads), which might explain why he's started to stalk the headspace version of Titus Groan.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Muraki and Tsuzuki)
Based this off a prompt on [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic: I'd started writing it based on one prompt, which had a line in it that fit Muraki's snarky tone very well, but then someone scoffed the prompt. I quickly found another on the same page and continued working on it. Just a bit of Muraki/Tsuzuki fluff. I have an especial place in my heart for it, as it's just damn cute and funny (plus it's also a chance for us to see the gentler but no less gleefully creepy side of Muraki; could even be [livejournal.com profile] carpe_ho_ras canon, with a post-reform Muraki). Besides, what's cuter than Tsuzuki when he's overdone it at the dinner table?

Title: Full Belly and a Warm Heart
Author: [livejournal.com profile] matrixrefugee
Rating: PG
Pairing: Muraki/Tsuzuki
Genre: Humor, mild hurt/comfort, romance
Chapter: Not applicable
Comments: Muraki finds out what a bottomless pit Tsuzuki is... Written for [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic's "any, any, "Wow. I'd assumed that was a gastronomic impossibility."". I'd started writing it for one prompt, but that got filled, so I found it fit another prompt much better, resulting in a fic that I'm very happy with.
Actual Fic: ( He'd heard of Tsuzuki's appetite, but he'd never seen it in action till now )

matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (TrueBlood)
I've been on a bit of a hiatus from this journal, mostly because I've been busy, partly because I've been trying to let the dust settle after a kerfuffle earlier this week.

One thing that's kept me scurrying around doing errands, even when it was hot out: I needed a new pair of sandals badly, since the pair I was wearing simply were falling apart at the heels. But try finding a pair of *SENSIBLE SANDALS* these days when women seem to be wearing those flippy, frippy, strippy-strappy things that look like they're designed for tooling around the mall or showing off to ones galpals, and not necessarily walking a mile in. I don't/can't drive due to my sensory overload issues (trust me: I am all but a nervous wreck behind the wheel, plus cars are expensive to maintain), thus I buy shoes for their durability and comfort. Unfortunately I had to search through about five or six stores before I found a sensible style, similar to the pair I have. I did, however, get myself a few consolation prizes along the way, including: a Hello Kitty throw pillow with a black and white polka dot hairbow on one ear, and a black and white Hello Kitty throw blanket for the coming cold months, and... a bottle of TruBlood. Really! I have yet to drink it, and right now, it's sitting on my bookshelf, next to (I kid you not) a small crucifix!

Also, have been watching the 2009 version of "The Prisoner", featuring Jim Caviezel and Sir Ian McKellen (otherwise known to the [livejournal.com profile] carpe_ho_ras gang as "11-12's canon"). Cue yours truly making jokes about "Jesus and Gandalf in the same TV series". I'm rather glad I'm only passingly familiar with the Patrick McGoohan version from the 1960s, as this helped me approach it with a blank slate, though there again, I tend to be open-hearted towards most adaptations, unless it's hopelessly wonky (viz. the 2001 version of "The Time Machine" and the Ralph Bakshi animated versions of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings"). I enjoyed it immensely and am planning to rewatch it very soon: the visuals and the acting is utterly incredible. Still trying to figure a few things out, but that's what rewatches are for. Also, their use of some Beach Boys songs made me laugh (sort of a riff on the Patrick McGoohan version and its use of Beatles songs). I also found it rather interesting that 6 in both versions is played by a Catholic actor who's been known to turn down or request adjustments in roles which don't sit right with their comfort levels and their consciences; Patrick McGoohan rather famously turned down the role of James Bond because he wasn't comfortable with the character's more or less loose moral code, and Jim Caviezel has been known to gently insist that love scenes be toned down. (Note: this is by no means a judgment on love scenes in movies/TV; everyone has different comfort levels and consciences of varying sensitivities. I'm not always comfortable with certain things, so I just Look Away on certain bits. But I applaud actors who respect themselves by being true to their consciences, and I applaud directors who are willing to make adjustments in their creation in order to respect their actors.).

Also watching "Gankutsuou [The Count of Monte Cristo]", which I am thoroughly enjoying, even if the color scheme can make my eyes ache at times. The Count makes me think somewhat of a cross between a kinder, gentler Alucard and one of the elves from "Those Who Hunt Elves", while I'm having fun doing "Hey It's That Voice": the girl who voices Orihime in "Bleach" as Peppo, the guy who voiced Jet Black as one of the Count's manservants, Wendee Lee in several roles, the voice actress for the bitchy actress in the King of Swords arc of YnM in several other roles, Liam O'Brien aka. Hisoka from ditto as Albert's rival, Aramaki's VA as a random old man, and I think I might have heard Michael Ross (End of Evangelion!Fuyutsuki) in some random supporting part. To say nothing of increasingly ubiquitous Jonny Yong Bosch as Albert.

Of course this, coupled with re-rewatching the last two episodes of "Gormenghast" over the weekend, preparatory to intro'ing Titus Groan at the Mansion, has caused one headspace dweller to warn me that he's close to having an aneurysm over the sheer number of attractive young men that are in these series, particularly ones he's met at the Mansion.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (TrueBlood)
Which means I can at last wear the Fangtasia tee-shirt I got just before this maddening heat wave we've been having. I'm trying not to grumble about the weather, or grumble about people grumbling about the weather. Or about people whining in general ( :: Glares at people commenting on the LJ News comm:: ). There seems to have been a rash of it lately and it's wearing on my nerves as much as the weather is. I don't know what the cause behind it is, but it's caused me to be a bit more hermetic than usual.

Did a little retail therapy to ease my frazzled nerves: went to the Burlington Barnes & Noble for the first time in a month and picked up a couple of odd volumes of Naomi Novik's Temeraire series (aka "Iskierka's canon" to the [livejournal.com profile] carpe_ho_ras crowd).

Still watching "Dexter" and I'm on the third season already. For a series that has plenty of Nightmare Fuel, it's got it's share of Crowning Moments of Heartwarming, particularly this season. Gotta love how Dexter proposed to Rita. He's not just asking her to marry him, he's asking to be a dad to her kids. Awwwww!!!

I'm also taking tentative pokes at another Showtime series, namely, "The Tudors". I blame the red-hot shortfic that one of the Carpe folks wrote for it, as well as a certain headspace-dweller's fondness for Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. :: Glares at Muraki:: I'm well aware that it's a highly romanticized view of history, but I'm a little leery of it: my biggest concern is how Sir Thomas More gets portrayed. He's one of my heroes and I'd hate to see him get warped into a sanctimonious jerk or something just as tedious.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Birthday Cake)
I've been a bit busy starting some of the birthday festivities: I have to work the day after my birthday, so I've had to rearrange my schedule a bit.

But, among other things, I've been doing a bit of shopping, some practical, some fun. Among other things I have acquired:

--Several DVDs, including both the Tod Browning and the Francis Ford Coppola versions of "Dracula" -- I've never seen the whole thing of the Tod Browning version, so I'm rectifying that, stat -- also the complete set of "Firefly", which I was watching over the weekend via Hulu, and which I enjoyed so much that I picked that and "Serenity" up at Newberry Comics in Burlington.

--A Fangtasia tee-shirt, also at Newberry Comics; I almost bought a bottle or two of TrueBlood, but my finances wouldn't allow for that at that time.

--Do not shoot me, but I also bought a copy of the new Twhinelite novella, the proceeds from which are going to the Red Cross to help the relief effort in Haiti and in Chile. I've only just started reading it, and so far it's pretty good (compared to the rest of the series).

--Also have been getting several packages in the mail, more books on order from Amazon, including the light novel version of Blood+ (essentially a novelization of the anime; just waiting for the third one so I can triple-check the facts on Riku's death since I am introing him at the Mansion this week) and the art book based on the BBC version of Gormenghast (proof of how obsessed I am. Stephen Fry's introduction in it should be waved under the noses of all the purists whinging on Youtube about the miniseries: he pretty much slaps all their arguments with a dead fish).

I'm also figuring out the webcam on this laptop, and thus I maaay be posting video bloggage via YouTube. We'll see: I haven't yet set up an account there, but in due time.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (TrueBlood)
Just back from Target where I was picking up a few odds and ends for the laptop -- which I have named "Francis Xavier", in honor of the first Jesuit missionary to Japan. I needed a laptop case to carry it in, and I've also bought a few odds and ends: AVG software (when the trial version of MacAfee runs out), surge protector, even a cooling base (which I'm currently using to raise the keyboard up a bit: the crate I'm using as a desk is just a little low). Also picked up Season 2 of True Blood on DVD, though I never did finish watching the first season, oddly enough. And the peace I'd made with the whole Twilight thing nearly was disrupted: come to find out Ms. Meyer is releasing a new Twilight-verse novella. I'm hoping it might actually be good, since it does not focus on Dulla and Edweird. Definitely one for the "get it used on Amazon" list. Only good thing about it is at least the proceeds from the sales of the novella are going to help the Red Cross.

God help us if we ever got a Dulla and/or Edweird at the Mansion. Riku might be cool with them (since he tends to be friendly with everyone) and the same would go for Tsuzuki for the same reasons, but it would likely be hard to keep Muraki from trying to consume either or both of them (plus he and Aramat would likely fight over who gets to dissect them). And I think I would have too much fun letting Ryuk bedevil Eddie-kins. I'd love to see Adrian Ivashkov snark the either of them down. I think Paul has had some exposure to them, since [livejournal.com profile] tomboy_typist and I have spoken about him and Muraki eventually having a conversation involving the nature of sparkle-pires.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Alucard)
So... I've been a bit invisible lately due to Not Feeling Like Myself due to That Time of the Month impending and simply crashing after all the emotional roller coaster rides I've been on lately. I've been by turns:

--Watching random classical music vids on YouTube

--Sloooowly catching up on [livejournal.com profile] carpe_ho_ras tags (Next to Parsifal, Ryuk has had the biggest intro to date of my characters: proof of how popular Death Note is).

--Typing/posting another fic for [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic; will post to another entry

--Alternating reading chapters of Gormenghast with watching the miniseries (via YouTube): Best way to compare and contrast them (And I like 'em both. Drat the nay-sayers who whine in the YT comments about the Pre-Raphaelite art design and the brighter lighting: I think it creates a better contrast, and in some cases, I find it an interesting foil to the Gothic elements). And phooey on the nuts who gripe about Jonathan Rhys-Meyers: he might be prettier than the book version of Steerpike, but boy, does he have the personality nailed left, right and center (scary....); there is something to be said for good-looking villains: it's that whole "evil looks attractive" thing. ( :: Glares at another good-looking villain, in headspace, for drooling...:: ) Also having some Carpe Horas-related hilarity whilst reading the critical essays in the back of the omnibus (borrowed from the Lowell Library; will likely be returning it once my own copy shows up in the mail -- used via Amazon): One essay describes Steerpike as having "vampiric qualities", which lead me to snerk, "Not quite, but his self-appointed mentor does, and if the cards get played right, he might wind up as a sympathetic energy phage..."

--Rewatching Blood Plus, since Riku Miyagusuku has joined the chorus in headspace, and I think he'd be an interesting new arrival to the Mansion: Nice, sensible, cute little guy who just happens to be a dhampire/chiropteran chevalier. I had forgotten how much this anime plays like what you get if you throw Hellsing, a Robert Ludlam novel, a schoolgirl samurai flick and some warm-fuzzy family drama into a blender. And is it me, or is Van Argiano an Expy of Muraki (and possibly a role Crispin Freeman took up because he'd flaked out taking the role of His Paleness in the dub of YnM)? Also, there seems to be much Talking To Himself in this anime: the guy who voiced Kai Miyagusuku also voices a desk clerk who dickers with him, and then there's Crispin Freeman voicing a mook technician who grumbles at Argiano.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (A.I. Monica and David)
Ahh, yes, I haven't been posting much of late, due to a lot of factors, including work and just being tired due to getting over this darn cough I've been struggling with all week. Plus my poor mother caught it from me and thus I've been taking care of her. Consequently, I wasn't able to get all my [livejournal.com profile] story_lottery stories written and typed before the deadline in order to win the round, but at least I can still post what I managed to finish, which should be showing up in the days to come...

I've also been re-watching Death Note, since I'm warming up to bring the "apple-eating, *other* kind of shinigami" to the Mansion. I couldn't resist, especially since one of the gang has recently intro'ed Light Yagami (who's extremely skeptical on meeting the cuter breed of shinigami, and has been exchanging philosophical shots across the bow with Muraki). Gotta say, one of the things that's been keeping me sane lately has been [livejournal.com profile] carpe_ho_ras, and it's been a while since I could say that in all honesty about an RPG I've been involved in.

Also finally managed to get through the second half of "Repo! The Genetic Opera" without too many squicks, even got a start on the audio commentary (featuring Alexa Vega, Terence Zudunich and a few others -- hilarioua!)
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Muraki and Tsuzuki)
LJ is now offering up to fifteen extra userpics for basic accounts for $6... and since I discovered I still had an unused gift certificate in my account, I put that toward... fifteen extra userpics for each of "the boys": this has caused jubilation in headspace, to whit -- getting tackle-glommed by Tsuzuki (in puppy-shinigami mode, no less, which is always a delight), and getting snogged by His Paleness (the first time he's gotten that forward, ever). So for those who have been stalking a [livejournal.com profile] cute_shinigami and a [livejournal.com profile] silvereyedphage, you're likely to see some formerly retired userpics return as well as a number of new ones I've had my eye on.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (Tsuzuki in the snow)
Wouldn't you know: the week that I decide to start archiving my ff.n fics on An Archive of Our Own is also the week that their otherwise handy Import function has an IP conflict with ff.n. :: Sighs:: Thus it's been slow going, and I've also been sorting what fics I want to have on the AO3 page. Most of the "A.I." fics are making the cut, but some of the others... I still like them, but somehow, they don't have the sparkle that they had when I first wrote them, and I'm willing to let them stay on ff.n. I've moved the Dresden Files fics and the Sandman ones already, and they've been garnering quite a few hits in just the 24 hours they've been there.

Also, I got my first "Loved when Eddie-kins bit it" review for "Red Moon/Akatsuki":

Wow, awesome story. Really well written and especially love the part where
Edward dies n.n You MUST continue this and soon! Please! It's really great X)

Now if I could just get the first frothing-at-mouth fanit review, I'd feel like I accomplished what I'd partly set out to do when I wrote the damn thing (the other reason, or one other reason, anyway, was to make my peace with the bloody books). I'm tempted to use Muraki's account to start trawling the fanggurl comms and see what happens. I may make some converts, or I might just be contributing to the (well-deserved, in some cases) hatedom that His Paleness has.

[livejournal.com profile] carpe_ho_ras shenanigans: Per the Tsuzuki/Melisande exchange, I've been begged to write a fic with Tsuzuki reading some kind of really naughty romance novel, with or without Hisoka chewing him out for wasting his eyesight on such "trash". This also helped me finally decide what would go with the prompt "a park bench" on [livejournal.com profile] story_lottery. Also, if a villain can creep out Steerpike (from "Gormenghast", albeit the somewhat more sympathetic version from the BBC mini-series adaptation), that can only mean said villain is pretty effin' *CREEPY*.
matrixrefugee: the word 'refugee' in electric green with a background of green matrix code (TDF Welcome to the Jungle)
Nope, I don't seem to be doing my usual "devour the book in one day" since I've been juggling it with Gregory Maguire's "Wicked", which I for some reason never finished when I started reading it two years ago. We recently had the book version of Elphaba turn up at the Mansion and I decided this was a sign that I needed to finish familiarizing myself with her world.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but I have to say, "Changes" is not pulling any punches. "Hurt the hero" is one of the many rules of good fiction writing, and let me tell you, Jim is roundhouse punching Harry in this one. The series is not going to be the same after this, and I'm dreading some of the reactions that the small handful of kiddie fans will have -- though older fans will be cackling with glee (while secretly wincing at the things that go down).
